UTM tracking setup guide
Auto-generate UTM-tagged links for every creator and campaign in the Flinque influencer marketing platform. Standardize your tracking, enable accurate attribution, and unify reporting across analytics tools.
What UTM tracking does
- Auto-generated tracking links: every creator and campaign gets unique UTM-tagged URLs
- Standardized parameters: consistent utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content values
- Custom parameter support: add custom UTM fields for your reporting needs
- URL shortening: optional integration with branded URL shorteners for cleaner creator-facing links
- Cross-tool consistency: tags work in Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, server-side tracking, and any tool that captures URL parameters
- Bulk operations: generate hundreds of unique links across creators and platforms in seconds
UTM convention used by Flinque
By default, Flinque generates UTM links using the following convention:
Setup steps
Open the UTM Tracking settings in Flinque
Log into your Flinque workspace at platform.flinque.com. Go to Settings → Integrations. Find UTM Tracking and click Configure.
Choose your UTM convention
Use Flinque defaults, or customize each parameter to match your existing tracking convention. Common customizations include changing utm_medium to “social”, “creator”, or “partner”.
Connect a URL shortener (optional)
Long UTM links can look spammy in social posts. Connect Bitly, Rebrandly, or your custom branded shortener to automatically shorten Flinque-generated links.
Save and start using
Click Save Settings. From now on, every creator and campaign in your workspace automatically generates UTM-tagged links accessible from each creator profile and campaign page.
Best practices
- Use lowercase consistently: UTM parameters are case-sensitive in most analytics tools
- Avoid spaces: use hyphens or underscores instead of spaces in parameter values
- Standardize utm_medium: use the same medium label (e.g., “influencer”) across all creator campaigns
- Match your analytics conventions: if your team uses specific UTM conventions in Google Analytics, mirror them here
- Test before launch: click a test UTM link and verify it appears correctly in your analytics tool within 30 minutes
Troubleshooting
UTM parameters not showing in analytics
Confirm the destination URL accepts query parameters (some heavily customized routing setups strip them). Test by manually adding ?utm_source=test to the URL and verifying it loads correctly.
URL shortener not generating short links
Verify your shortener API key is valid. Check rate limits on Bitly free plan (50,000/month) or your shortener’s equivalent.
Duplicate UTM tags appearing
If a creator manually adds UTM parameters and Flinque also adds them, you may see duplicate or overwritten parameters. Tell creators to use Flinque’s generated links exactly as provided, without modification.
