What it does

The go or no-go number for any creator deal

Calculate

Break-even from three inputs

Price, margin and fee become a unit target and a revenue target instantly. It is pure arithmetic from your own economics, with no benchmark assumptions hiding inside.

  • Units and revenue shown together
  • Profit per unit surfaced
  • Runs entirely in your browser
Negotiate

See what a fee change is worth

The target moves linearly with the fee, so running the maths at both ends of a quote shows exactly how many units a negotiation saves. That is leverage you can take into the conversation.

  • Linear fee sensitivity
  • Reported rate bands for context
  • Run it per creator on a shortlist
Decide

Payback or awareness, stated plainly

If the units are realistic, the deal can pay for itself. If they are not, you are buying awareness and should judge it that way. The calculator makes that fork explicit before money moves.

  • Clear threshold before committing
  • Compare against realistic conversion
  • EMV kept separate from revenue

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate break-even for an influencer campaign?

Two formulas, both from your own numbers. Break-even units divide the creator fee by the profit each unit earns, which is price times margin. Break-even revenue divides the fee by the margin. A $2,000 fee against a $50 product at a 40% margin means $20 profit per unit, so 100 units and $5,000 in revenue to cover the fee. No benchmarks are involved, which is what makes this the cleanest go or no-go number in campaign planning.

What is the difference between break-even units and break-even revenue?

They are the same threshold seen from two angles. Units tell you how many individual sales the placement must drive, which is the number to compare against what a creator's audience can realistically deliver. Revenue tells you the gross sales figure that covers the fee, which is the number finance recognises. Revenue is always the fee divided by margin, so a $2,000 fee at a 40% margin needs $5,000 of tracked sales regardless of the product mix.

What profit margin should I enter?

Use your contribution margin on the product being promoted, meaning what is left of the price after the direct costs of making and delivering one more unit. That is your own accounting figure rather than any industry benchmark and the calculator deliberately uses no default. If your margin varies across a range being promoted, run the calculation with the blended figure or with the hero product's margin for a conservative read.

What if the campaign is unlikely to hit break-even units?

First check whether the target is realistic against the audience. If a creator reaches 40,000 genuine people and the target is 100 units, that is a 0.25% conversion of reach, which is demanding though not absurd. If the maths clearly cannot work, negotiate the fee down, improve the margin with a bundle or accept that the placement is buying awareness rather than direct payback. Reported earned media value sits around $5.78 per $1 spent, though EMV is equivalent ad value rather than revenue, so it should never substitute for this calculation.

How does the creator fee change the target?

Linearly, which is what makes this calculator useful in a negotiation. Halving the fee halves both the unit and the revenue target and every dollar negotiated off the fee comes straight off the threshold. Reported rate bands help you judge the fee itself: micro creators are reported at $150 to $1,500 per post and macro at $5,000 to $20,000. Run the calculation at both ends of a quote to see what the negotiation is actually worth in units.

Is the campaign break-even calculator free?

Yes, it is free with no signup and no card and everything is computed in your browser from the three numbers you enter. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere. It pairs well with the rate estimator for judging the fee and the CPM calculator for judging the reach price. When you need to find creators whose real audiences can actually hit your unit target, the full platform covers more than 10 million verified profiles, starting at $0 with no card.
