This year was the most heartbreaking in my life because of the war. That’s why I wanted to create a video of good things that happened - to keep the memory of them. I bet some of these moments you remember from stories 😄
Magic happens!

I’ve been in a pretty bad position mentally for the last couple of months. We had to urgently move to Kazakhstan. And I felt lost - no way to make money, no visa, I wasn’t even able to bring my oil paints. So I’ve started to question all of my life decisions including becoming a painter.

We were sitting at a cafe in a very small city. My husband said - “Look, it’s your art!”. I thought that he was joking. But I looked at the direction he was pointing anyway.

And I saw my art! A copy of my painting on a tote bag!

I had to run. I never chased anyone before 😄 But I had to take a picture. Otherwise, I will not believe my eyes.

It was so amazing! To me it meant that someone was so inspired with my art that they’ve painted it. It means a lot to me! And seeing it at that moment of despair, 2000 kilometers from home - it was unbelievable.

So I guess, sometimes magic happens 🪄

I’m living for before and after photos 😄

I haven’t done any paintings for a couple months (!). The business side of being an artist takes a lot of time. Especially if you are new to the world of marketing.

Have you read articles with advices like “be active on social media”, “create your website” and other obvious stuff?! Oh, they are so bad! I wasted a lot of time on them. And it turned out that marketing is something different.

I’ll definitely write about that soon. But for now here is the before and after 😄

The first drawing was done when I was 19. It’s been such a long bumpy road! But I’m glad that I made it.
The solo show in on view until June 12th at the Beinart gallery, Brunswick, Australia.
Thank you so much for the exhibition video to

Tell me - do your artworks look good from the beginning? My paintings look bad during 90% of the process. I think it’s because I base my color decisions on comparing and adjusting instead of being perfect from the first try. Which is the only thing that helped me to move from hating colors to loving them.

This painting was done with my favourite Cobra water-mixable oil paints. It’s the only oil paints that I take with me to any offline demonstrations or vacations. I even got used to the fact that they can be mixed with water 😄

It’s time to start sharing process photos and before/after of paintings that I’ve been creating for my future solo show (May 22nd - June 12th at Beinart Gallery in Australia). I can’t wait to share the experience with you! We need to discuss preparation, emotional and financial sides of creating a personal exhibition 🤓

New #stepbystep workshop by our Cobra ambassador
«I’ll be using Cobra Study water-mixable oil paints (set of 5) and Rembrandt oil paper as a canvas.

This set has CMYK colors - cyan, magenta, yellow and black. To make the paint warmer I'll be adding yellow and magenta. For cooler colors - ivory black and a bit of cyan.

Step 1
Let's start with a simple outline. Our aim is to understand the height (where the middle line is) and the width

Step 2
We can block in everything. Simple, big areas of color

Step 3
Let's work on the shape. Towards the middle line, the lip becomes darker, towards the edge - closer to the skin color

Step 4
Now we can add some variation - saturated red (yellow + magenta) in the middle of the lower lip. Cooler lights near the edge of the lower lip

Step 5
It's time to blend! I take a fluffy brush and smudge lines between the colors

Step 6
If I feel that it's hard for me to blend, I add colors that are in-between those that we already have on the canvas

Step 7
Bold highlights! I always add them at the last moment because I want to be sure that I understand what is happening with the shape underneath them so I'm emphasizing rather than hiding

And here is the result!»

Any goals for 2022?

My list is all about learning how to take care of myself - eating healthier, exercising and other boring stuff.

I’m still trying to find an inner peace because what is happening around makes me anxious. And the best way to feel good for me is to paint something small and sweet. Like lips 😄

If I was asked to give one advice to a beginner artist I would say - work on your process. That’s the thing that can save you a lot of time! Start from big shapes and big brushes. If you are working on a portrait, start with the shape of the head and the location of facial features. Look at your references with squinted eyes. Only main shapes, colors and relationships. Big, big, big! As big as you can. Then move to medium areas with smaller brush. And still ignore details. And only after you’ve finished all of these steps you can proceed to the best parts - details and blending.
‘Trust the process’ works only if you have a right process ❤️
P.S. Some people are capable of creating a portrait from an eye and make it perfect. They are either professionals or work as printers copying exactly what is on the reference. It’s not bad but it’s a huge limitation so try not to do that.
