Zabrina photographed true movement-builders: Cecilia Moy Yep, who has fought for Chinatown’s future her entire life; who leads the ’ America’s Chinatowns initiative; and co-founder of Asian Americans United and a lifelong advocate for justice. One of my favorite images from the day is the portrait of 95-year-old Cecilia Moy Yep, sitting joyfully in front of the Friendship Gate she helped bring to Philadelphia’s Chinatown. We were lucky with the weather and several dear friends accompanied Cecilia to make this photo possible. I will always treasure this photo.
My Chinatown advocacy has brought extraordinary people into my life — friends who show up, give back, and stand strong for our communities. As the year ends, I’m profoundly grateful for artists like Zabrina who use their work in service of preservation and storytelling. Grateful to for this photo, taken earlier this year as we arrived in Philly for an event supporting the city’s Chinatown.
In these photos, I wanted to capture something tender and timeless: model Alexia sits, pen in hand, tracing memories onto Ritz Carlton letterhead. She’s writing to her soon-to-be husband, River, recalling the moment she first saw him and the love that has grown between them over the years.
River, ever clever, replies like Hemingway, his words flowing from an old typewriter. There’s an intimacy in their letters—one I wanted to leave unsaid, inviting you, the viewer, to imagine what they might be telling each other.
It’s a shared experience, where each glance and gesture invites you to fill in the spaces, to feel the story in your own way. I only wish these images could be seen on a larger scale; a phone screen hardly does them justice.

Attending Master Sifu ’s week-long workshop in Hong Kong and Beijing back in 2009 was a turning point in my life. It allowed me to experience the life of a destination photographer and utilize my bilingual skills. Since then, I have photographed weddings, portraits, engagement sessions, and fashion assignments. I feel extremely fortunate to have been one of the first photographers to tap into the trend of combining fashion and glamour with location shoots. My wedding and pre-wedding clients have taken me to Europe, Asia, and North Africa as frequent destinations.
I love being able to create something incredibly romantic and glamorous for each wedding couple. Making them look their best is my passion and top priority in these sessions.
