What do you desire to work on, and what if you free yourself from the need to somehow have this magical preemptive 100% certainty that you absolutely will not fail?
What if you gift yourself the certainty that regardless of the many unknowns at least on YOUR end on your side of the street (your practice, your commitment, your attitude, your faith, your devotion, your self-love, your capacity to ask for support and relational structure and counsel when needed, your flexibility to forgive yourself and show up again when you fall short, your capacity for moving through discomfort) you WILL give your all and you WILL figure it out?
I truly believe this: we are already miracles for being here and being alive, and we are more than capable of being channels and conduits for more miracles that become gifts for the collective. 💌

The morning pages is the daily practice artist Julia Cameron recommends religiously in her seminal creative handbook THE ARTIST’S WAY: three pages of stream of consciousness writing in a notebook by hand every morning to clear your mind.
My morning pages was starting to feel stagnant and repetitive (though I know making interesting breakthroughs is not the point, I kept meal planning and writing to-do lists and ruminating on boring thought patterns), and so I thought: why not freeform drawing practice instead?
I had been lamenting to myself for too long of a time that I hadn’t been dedicating the time I would like to doodling for the sake of doodling.
50 days later, I am excited to be engaging daily with my drawing practice, far more than I had been in years. My pack of Pentel art brush pens that had barely been used since I bought them at an art store in Tokyo nearly two years ago are starting to run out of ink, and I am looking forward to making good use of many more of my art supplies that have been very underutilized.
Is it discipline that is fueling my consistency? Maybe, but I think the truer answer is that I found a daily, nonjudgmental practice that is an anchor I genuinely want to return to again and again because it prioritizes experimentation, play, curiosity, and unexpected discoveries within the loose structure objective of filling at least one sketchbook page with anything.

If you desire to show up more consistently to your creative practice AND feel frustrated by your lack of progress in actually, tangibly showing up and maybe have some complicated hangups around the idea of discipline and work ethic, then join us!
The initial discomfort of adapting to a new change is INITIAL. Once the new behavior becomes a habit, there inevitably will be other experiences of discomfort but you will have at least overcome the INITIAL discomfort of alchemizing new behavior into regularly recurring behavior.
And even if you stop doing the thing and you need to restart the habit? You at least already have prepaved the neural pathways for starting the habit so it won’t be completely brand new.
You have done it before, you survived it, and you can do it again with more. You can close the gap more quickly between falling off your habit and getting back into it again, again and again and again.
What if you give yourself permission to show up messily, imperfectly, unproductively for ten minutes a day for 6 days? That’s already an hour of creative work in a week that otherwise would have been nothing.
With enough practice, the showing up and the actual work become a pleasure in themselves.
With enough time, the showing up becomes a part of your personhood. Even if no one sees what you are working on, the recurring practice becomes your source of peacefulness that no one else can take away from you.
So how many days will it take to overcome the INITIAL discomfort? The number 21 days gets thrown around a lot (which is not entirely accurate but we’ll use that as a baseline).
21-ish days (and it can be as simple as 10, 30, 60 minutes per day) of INITIAL discomfort for a lifetime of consistent creative work is a pretty great bargain if creative work is important to you.

Summer euphoria is real, as is summer boredom, summer burnout, summer sadness, summer anxiety, summer grief, summer existential crisis, summer irritation, summer rage, and so on.
Here in Los Angeles, i spent my summer solstice (and ensuing days) completely indoors due to the toxic air quality resulting from the Lineage warehouse fire.
Be gentle with yourself. Do kind things for yourself and others, as well as those in your community, and remember that we are all in this together.

Lucky for me, I love drawing people in bodies of water and crying. ☔️

My tl;dr pitch for this 3.5 hour webinar is that this is the creative discipline and structure education I wish I can gift my younger baby artist self who internalized toxic hustle culture, self-flagellating constant productivity, and felt that my self-worth was directly tied to my external success and artistic output.
Actually…
🥭 Your creative discipline does not have to be punitive and restrictive. What if your discipline is instead guided by self-love, self-advocacy, curiosity, excitement, and a desire to create?
🥭 What if creative discipline = creative DEVOTION
🥭 What if creative discipline and structure are more RELATIONAL rather than an impossible benchmark you have to punish yourself toward? Imagine: your creative practice is about deepening your relationship with yourself, your creative genius, and whatever else (land, spirit, ancestors, etc.) you are communing with.
🥭 How can we infuse more PLEASURE and ABUNDANCE and EASE into our creative practice in a way that honors our capacities, preferences, rhythms, cycles, and seasons?
All registered participants will receive unlimited replay access to the recording of the webinar after the livestream.
