I received a request to paint a qilin on the wall of the entrance hall to ward off misfortune.
The qilin is a legendary auspicious beast from Chinese folklore.
It has long been regarded as “a symbol of protection against evil spirits and misfortune that dispels negative energy and brings peace and good fortune.”
Since it does not take any life, it is said to float through the air as it moves so as not to crush flowers or insects, leading a very peaceful life…
That’s why I tried to convey the softest possible atmosphere in my illustration. Even so, it still looks a bit scary, though…

The concept is an eel rising into the moon!
Inspired by Hokusai’s Sketches, I created this illustration to offer a soothing sight to exhausted office workers in Tokyo.
The key detail is the man’s sandal slipping off in the picture.
Since I used to work as an office worker in Tokyo myself, I drew this while recalling that sense of exhaustion from back then.

ということで、かなり薄く淡く描かせていただきました。
海外の方が気軽に力士達を見る事ができて、しかも体験までできるという魅力的な場所🙏（カジュアルな場なのでこちらのスタジオでは女性も土俵に入って体験していただけます）
土俵をこんなに間近で見ることは女性という立場上、中々できないので感激しました。
この相撲スタジオをキッカケに日本の伝統や文化に興味を持つ方が増えたら嬉しいです。
I had the opportunity to paint a traditional Japanese-style mural on the wall of a sumo studio in Osaka.
At this studio, visitors from overseas can easily watch sumo wrestlers and even try their hand at it themselves. (Traditionally, women are not allowed on the dohyo, but at this studio, women are welcome to enter the ring.)
It’s rare to see the dohyo up close like this, so I was truly moved.
I would be delighted if this sumo studio inspires more people to take an interest in Japanese traditions and culture.

深みを出したいのでマット黒で何層にも重ねて描きました。
個人的に大好きなモチーフだったので描くのが楽しかったです！
龍の爪は3本にこだわってます。
元々中国の龍の爪は5本ですが、日本は3本爪が多めです（※日本で描かれている全ての龍が3本というわけではない）
理由は、「天・地・人」の3つを表していたり、日本では妖怪など架空の生物を人間と分けるために3本爪にしてたり、そもそも日本人が3という数字が何かと好きだから…とも言われてますが。
江戸時代から続く日本の宝である古民家に描く龍は、やっぱり日本古来の３本爪の龍でしょ！と思います。
虎と龍という最強同士の戦いということで、「高め合いながら上昇していく」という意味を込めてます。
I painted on the wall of a traditional house over 200 years old.
To create depth, I applied multiple layers of matte black paint.
It was a motif I personally love, so painting it was a joy!
I insisted on three claws for the dragon's fingers.
While Chinese dragons typically have five claws, three-clawed dragons are more common in Japan!

Reasons cited include representing the three realms of “Heaven, Earth, and Humanity,” using three fingers to distinguish mythical creatures like yokai from humans, or simply because the number three holds particular appeal for the Japanese...
For a traditional Japanese house, a treasure passed down since the Edo period, it just had to be a dragon rooted in Japan's ancient traditions!
Depicting the ultimate clash between the tiger and the dragon, I infused the artwork with the meaning of “rising together while pushing each other higher.”

お太鼓部分は龍の顔がドンときて、胴に巻きついている感じにしようと思います。
爪は日本という点にこだわりたいので三本の昇竜です。
（中国の龍は階級によって爪の本数が決まってますが、日本は日本独自の文化や思想の影響で三本が殆どです）
織りでこんな濃淡を再現できるんだろうか…！？とドキドキですが✨西陣織の精密さすごすぎるのですごく素敵なものができそうです🙏
I designed an obi sash for a kimono!
Drawing on about 5 meters of washi paper was quite a challenge.
By the way, I insisted on three claws for the dragon to emphasize its “Japanese dragon” identity.
(Chinese dragons have a set number of claws based on rank, but in Japan, influenced by its unique culture and philosophy, three claws are almost universal.)
I'm so excited—will the weaving really capture these shades and tones...
The precision of Japan's traditional craft, Nishijin-ori, is incredible, so I'm sure it will turn out absolutely stunning

最初はシミを誤魔化すために金箔でも貼ろうか…？
と思っていましたが、初心に戻って墨だけでシミを活かした龍虎の戦いを描いてみました。
四頭茶会でも龍虎の絵を飾りますが、お茶席には龍虎は合いますよね。
先生のお誕生日のプレゼントとして喜んでいただけたら嬉しいです。

Actually, I'm studying tea ceremony.
The reason is that it's the culmination of all the “ways” of Japanese culture, and I wanted to understand the meaning behind the tea preparation.
It's progressing quite slowly, but once I grasp the meaning behind the tea preparation, it's simply enjoyable!
My tea teacher then asked me
to paint on a folding screen he'd used for many years.
At first, I thought about covering the stains with gold leaf, but I went back to basics and painted a battle between a dragon and a tiger using only ink, embracing the stains.

龍と馬をただカッコよく描くだけでも良いのかもしれませんが…
「絵の中に意味を持たせたい‼️」と思って構図をかなり考えました。
私は3人兄弟の一番上なのですが、兄弟って助け合いながらライバルのように高めあう存在だなと思うんです👩👩👨
だから、支え合いながらお互いに成長していくという意味を持たせたいと思いました✈️
結果、インフィニティ（永遠や無限の象徴）とプレッツェル（ラテン語で「腕を組む」形）を組み合わせたオリジナルのデザイン（？）を絵の中に忍ばせてみました💡
遠くから見ると、「なるほど…」と分かるかもしれません、！
私は身長156cmと小柄なので、自分の身長よりも大きいF100号サイズの和紙やキャンバスは
前が見えなくて大変ですね…😂💦
Requested by a person who has children in the year of the dragon and the year of the horse.
It might be okay to just draw a dragon and a horse in a cool way, but
I wanted them to have a lot of meaning... so I spent much more time thinking about the composition than I did drawing them.
I'm the eldest of three siblings, and I think that siblings are like rivals who help each other while also improving each other.
So I wanted to give meaning to the idea of siblings supporting each other and growing together.
As a result, I created an original design that combines Infinity (a symbol of eternity or infinity) and Pretzel (a Latin word for “crossed arms”)in the painting.
