The Yokohama English Garden (ๆจชๆตใคใณใฐใชใใทใฅใฌใผใใณ) is mainly known for its more than 1.800 roses of 1.300 different varieties. However, in June, the garden transforms into a hydrangea paradise. About 300 kinds of hydrangea bloom around the garden area, and beautiful decorations are set up. This includes flying umbrellas, hydrangeas in flower pots, and pretty picture frames.
In 2026, the Ajisai Festival is held from May 25th to June 28th. So don't miss it when you are in Japan right now!

I can't believe it's already been over a week since my parents returned to Germany from their trip to Japan. At Haneda Airport Terminal 3, we could enjoy the beautiful seasonal decoration: hydrangea! Called ajisai ็ดซ้ฝ่ฑ in Japanese, these flowers in shades of blue, purple, pink, and white are the symbol of Japan's rainy season in June โ
I especially loved the large variety of hydrangea species, which look so beautiful. Also, a great combination with Godzilla in the background ๐

During my parents' trip to Japan, we did a day trip to Kawagoe, a lovely town in Saitama prefecture, also known as "Little Edo" thanks to its historic streets and Edo-era atmosphere.
One of the famous spots of the town is the Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine (ๅท่ถๆฐทๅท็ฅ็คพ). It has a very long history, and it is said that it was built in the 6th century!
During a visit, you should check the fish-shaped omikuji. Unlike the usual paper fortunes, these cute sea bream-shaped omikuji (tai mikuji) are โcaughtโ using a small fishing rod ๐ฃ It was really fun, but also a bit difficult to get one of the red, pink, and white fishes out.
In Japan, sea bream is considered a symbol of good luck, happiness, and celebration. While the red ones are the "usual" fortune papers, the pink and white ones focus on love and are especially popular among young girls. The adorable fish make a great souvenir from your trip and are a beautiful blend of tradition and joy.

Rilakkuma was appointed as the official Tourism Ambassador for Chiyoda Ward in August 2021 to promote local attractions. This year marks the 5th anniversary of this partnership, and a unique manhole cover featuring Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma, Kiiroitori, and Chairoikoguma with cherry blossoms was installed on the east side of Kanda Square.
If you hurry up, you still can try the limited stamp rally (until May 20th) and collect 6 stamps around Chiyoda to create your own card. The papers are sold for 100 yen at Chiyoda Tourist Information, where you can also find the first two stamps.

I'm Claudia, coming from Germany ๐ฉ๐ช and living in Western Tokyo together with my Japanese husband and our cat ๐ฑ.
I am interested in Japan since I'm a teenager and traveled here several times and did a working holiday year, before finally moving to Japan in October 2016.
I traveled to Japan for the first time in December 2010 and since then visited all of Japan's 47 prefectures. I have many stories to tell about all the places I visited and look forward to explore more and more.
I love traveling, exploring new places, and taking photos. I love sweets, so I enjoy going to cute cafรฉs, afternoon teas, sweets buffets, and character cafรฉs a lot โก Also I'm collecting goshuin and searching for special manhole covers.
To earn money, I'm teaching English to small children as a part-timer and have a shopping service for German-speaking customers. I also work as sns writer, content creator, write articles, etc. and I hope that I will be able to do more PR-related things in the future to share my love for Japan.

It's hydrangea season in Japan right now and one great spot to see these beautiful flowers is Kaisei Town in Kanagawa Prefecture. This year, the Ajisai Festival (#้ๆ็บใใใใใพใคใ) is taking place from 8th to 16th June. You can check their official account for latest updates โ
We visited the festival last year and I really enjoyed it there. About 5.000 hydrangea bushes are blooming around the rice paddies, but also along a small river and in a park. A lot to see and many nice spots to take photos ๐
