The reasons for that are many but to make it short: We are currently not planning any longer trips and itโs just an enormous amount of money (for us) thatโs literally just parked and which we could use well elsewhere.
Itโs a brain decision, not a heart one but we do believe (or at least hope?) it is the right one.
After all, Yoda was made and built to be lived in and to experience and travel the world with, not to be parked in the heart of Europe and bore himself to death.
Kinda feels unfair after all the wonderful memories we got to keep forever because of him.

Yoda is a Steyr 12M18 (year built 1992), a former Austrian army truck that was refurbished by in 2021.
The truck is 8.80 meters long (with rear carrier), 2.47 meters wide (29 x 8.2 feet) and has a height of about 3.85 meters (12.6 feet). Yoda weighs about 11.5 tons on the scale, so heโs a bit of a fatty.
For 100 kilometers he is surprisingly efficient though and (only) needs 22-23 liters of Diesel which is really not so bad considering the size/weight (10.7 miles per gallon). So with our 2x300 liter diesel tanks - one in the back, one on the driverโs side - we have a max range of about 2500 kilometers, of course depending on the road conditions.
From the Arctic Ocean in the far north of Canada to where the roads end in the far South of Argentina, Yoda has experienced everything from soft sandy beaches, endless deserts landscapes and wild off-road tracks to mountain roads at an altitude of almost 5000 meters in the last two years without any major problems.
Letโs hope he continues to be a loyal companion.

While on the road we have been living on a 12 square meter living unit from that has all what we need:
150m x 200m bed, bathroom with a toilet and a seperate shower, kitchen with induction cooker and oven, a 130m x 200m living area and a lot of storage.
Our living cabin has a size of 5.20 x 2.47 meters (17 x 8.2 feet) and gives us more than enough space.
For more details (also including information about our water and energy system, shipment, insurance and more) I collected some posts in the FAQ story highlight above.

For those of you who are new here, we would like to briefly introduce ourselves again:
We are Judith and Arthur traveling the world with our truck called Yoda. Since 2021 we made it to 36 Countries including the whole Panamericana.
If we add all other trips from before we have been to more than 50 countries together.
Even if we are from Germany and Austria we live in beautiful Switzerland.
For those who want to see and know more we have documented our adventures including room tours and shipping processes on YouTube as well (with subtitles in 13 different languages).
So welcome and have fun traveling with us. ๐

Of course we will be visiting family and friends first. We really missed all our people.
We need to change our tires and make a few repairs.
End of May we will be with at the in Bad Kissingen and we hope to meet some of you and share some stories.
Even though weโre really looking forward to finding a permanent home again, weโll be living in Yoda for a while because of the high rents in Switzerland so that we can fill our wallets again more quickly.
We will keep posting about the shipping process, the upcoming repairs, tire replacement, Abenteuer Allrad and even more.
There will still be YouTube videos, because of course we donโt want to keep the rest of beautiful South America from you. So stay in touch, the journey isnโt over yet and the next one is always in planning.;)

Itโs timeโฆ..Yoda is on its way home to Hamburg. As usually there were a few delays that made planning very complicated. The process in the Harbour went well but still we have a very bad feeling because we needed to give them all our keys so that they easily can get into all storage etc.
So now we can only hope that we get Yoda back safe and sound four weeks later. Fingers crossed.๐ค

Since we finished the Panamericana and went to Antarctica our daily thoughts started to get focused more and more on shipping and going home and we definitely feel ready for that. The last two years were amazing and we are grateful for everything that we have explored and also for everybody we met on this trip.
As I mentioned in the post before traveling has also its downsides though that eventually might outweigh the beautiful sides of traveling the more time passes.
In addition after such a long time at least for us it seemed that there is no more space in our heads for more exploring at the moment.
So even if there are some more weeks that we will spend on the road we feel ready for going home.

Number three: When you go on a short vacation, sometimes you just want to have some peace and quiet, be alone, not see anyone. When youโre away for longer, you realize how important it is to have a stable social environment, family and friends nearby. Of course you make acquaintances while traveling, but they are often short-lived in the sense that the itineraries and timing are not always the same. In the end we are simply social beings.

My second point is that sometimes you miss a challenging task or an activity that seems meaningful to you (be it to make a positive difference in the world or just for a few people or maybe just to finance your lifeโฆ). Perhaps this is not so easy to understand, because when we are in our everyday working lives, we often wish we were out of there. Perhaps this also varies with age or is different again when you have children. What I just want to say is that if we somehow donโt do anything โmeaningfulโ, then this can also create a certain emptiness or boredom.
Sharing the things you are doing via Social Media can help but to be honest (and I am sorry to say that) the joy and challenge of filming, photographing and editing videos has also diminished over time, at least for me.
Conclusion: In the end, itโs like all things. 50-hour working weeks are too much for most people, but not having any value-adding tasks is not the best thing either. Somewhere in between is probably the perfect balance.

Firstly, traveling the world can sometimes be less exciting than it seems from afar.
In videos and pictures on Social Media you usually see the highlights and only the good sides but in reality itโs often a lot more stressful or just different than it looks like. One reason is that you have to take care of a lot more things every day than in a โnormalโ life.
And for the most part, itโs simply about our basic needs: safety, places to sleep, (drinking) water, food, electricity, communication (language), waste disposal, diesel, health, money etc.. Things that we donโt have to worry about at home because we know where to get what we need and we have a very dense infrastructure.
This is particularly noticeable in countries where certain resources are scarce, such as water or certain foods, spare parts, diesel etc.
In addition it feels like there are 100 of decisions you need to take day by day, the factor of research and planning should not be underestimated.
Last but not least your brain just gets used to see a lot and sometimes the mind is not able to work through all the impressions you get day by day. So the excitement decreases over time in any case. Sounds weird but you really feel that you need holiday from what others perceive to be your โholidayโ.
You should know traveling for a long time is just another way of life and it is definitely not a long term holiday. That doesnโt mean that it bad or that we donโt appreciate the possibility to do that. I just want let you know that Social Media is deceptive.
To keep the post shorter, number two and three will follow in the next posts.
In any case this is my personal experience I made the last two years even if nearly everybody I spoke to during this journey just felt the same.
Anyway I would like to hear if you have maybe similar or different experiences.
