Además, junto con los manglares, este ecosistema representa una enorme oportunidad para el ecoturismo. Un tour de avistamiento de aves, reptiles y vida silvestre puede convertirse en una experiencia bonita, educativa, distinta y muy nuestra.
Y es que los manglares son mucho más que árboles entre el agua salada y dulce. Son la cuna de muchas especies. Ahí nacen, se reproducen o pasan sus primeras etapas peces, crustáceos, aves y otros organismos. Son, en toda la extensión de la palabra, un vivero natural.
Sin embargo, quienes dependen del estero también se enfrentan un problema serio, la alta sedimentación. Esta condición limita la navegación, afecta el aprovechamiento turístico y evidencia una deuda histórica del Estado costarricense con Puntarenas el abandono de la labor de dragado del estero.
Cuidar, recuperar y poner en valor este espacio no es solo un tema ambiental. También es una oportunidad para fortalecer el transporte, el turismo, la pesca, la educación ambiental y la identidad de nuestras comunidades costeras. 🧡🌊
