대학원 졸업작품 이후 최초의 그림책입니다.
학창시절에 꼭 그림책 작가가 될 거라고 꿈꿨었는데, 마흔이 가까워서 출간하게 된 첫 그림책 주인공이 뭉게가 되었네요.
뭉게를 그리면서, 언젠가 그림 속에서 영원히 살게 하고 싶다라는 생각은 뭉게의 생전부터 해왔었지만, 실제 이별을 경험하고 나서는 뭉게를 표현하는 일이 사실 쉽지만은 않았습니다. 특히 예전처럼 만화로 이야기를 빠르게 그리고 써내려가거나 기발한 생각들은 전혀 들지 않았어요. 그러다보니 큰 그림위주로 그리게 되었고 제 내면이 가장 중요한 회화로 표현하게 된 것 같아요.
그러다 이제는 지금까지의 만화 에세이가 아닌 그림책이 타협점인것 같았고, 2년정도 지나니 쌓여온 감정들을 모아 그림책으로 모아그려낼 수 있을 것 같아졌어요. 제 상황이 급변하면서 여러일을 겪고 표현의 형태가 바뀌었지만 절대 변하지 않는 그 무언가라는게 있고 그건 뭉게인 것 같습니다.
이 그림책은 뭉게가 주인공이면서 동시에 그 동안 제가 겪은 감정이나, 생활들에서 가져온 이야기와 그림입니다. 올컬러에요. 오랜만에 수채화라는 재료를 써서 고군분투를 했습니다. 그래도 다행인게 뭉게는 어떤 재료도 소화 흡수를 잘해요. 역시 저의 슈퍼스타인것 같습니다.

찾아와주신 모든 분들, 멀리서 마음 보내주신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 작품을 관람하시며 보여주신 표정들과 따뜻하게 남겨주신 말들이 오래 기억에 남을 것 같습니다. 짧은 기간이었지만 그만큼 진한 추억이 될 것 같습니다.
덕분에 저도 며칠간 고즈넉하고 멋진 한옥에서 집 마당에 해가 뜨고 그림자가 지는 변화를 관찰하며 힐링하거나, 포근한 이불 위에 뭉게가 실제로 자리잡고 누워 자고, 구석구석 코를 킁킁거리고 빠른걸음으로 뛰어다니는 상상을 끊임없이 했습니다.
요새 업무에 시달려 스트레스가 많았는데 이번 전시는 저에게 진정한 의미의 쉼을 가져와준 것 같습니다.
항상 보고싶은 뭉게지만 이렇게 멋진 곳에 앉아있자면 특히 더 아쉽고 그립네요. 눈을 감으면 있다고 상상하는게 더 쉬워지거든요. 중간 중간 눈을 감거나 한 곳을 뚫어지게 보거나 그랬습니다.
이번 전시를 기획하고 주최해주신 프린트베이커리 여러분께도 깊이 감사드립니다. 제가 자리를 비웠을때에도 전시장을 지키며 정말 수고가 많으셨습니다.

My exhibition Time Machine opened successfully yesterday.
It took the hard work and care of so many people to bring this exhibition to life.
My sincere thanks to everyone at Print Bakery for organising, planning, and hosting the exhibition; to Master Lee Jae-chul of Lee Jae-chul Ceramic Studio, who helped make it possible to present the Moongé ceramic works; and to Director Myung Yongin of Myeong Studio, who always takes beautiful installation and artwork photos, even on very short notice.
I would also like to express my gratitude to Kaikai Kiki Gallery and Mr. Takashi Murakami for their support from afar, as well as to the CEO of Oit Publishing and the director of Xinghui Creation, to whom I am always grateful.
Most of all, so many people from all over the world came to see the exhibition yesterday.
It feels as though the exhibition becomes complete through the presence of everyone who visits.

サイン会が終わって翌日に帰国したのですが、いろいろと慌ただしく、感想を書くのがこんなに遅くなってしまいました。
去年、東京で個展をしたとき、トークショーのあとに来てくださった方々へサインをする機会はありましたが、「サイン会」という名前でイベントを開いたのは、2025年に京都で行った出版記念会以来、初めてだったように思います。
今回は、1日あたり定員32名のサイン会で、お一人おひとりと十分にお話しできる時がありました。
あとからスタッフの方々に伺ったのですが、サイン会のお申し込みはかなり競争率が高かったそうです。
お申し込みくださった皆さま、本当にありがとうございました。
今回は来られなかった方とも、いつかきっとお会いできる機会があると信じています。
たいてい美術作家というのは、自分の個展のときにはギャラリーをよくうろちょろしているものです。
また日本で展示ができるよう、私も頑張りたいと思います。
サイン会では、お一人おひとりのお顔をゆっくり見ながらお話をして、やりとりを重ねていきました。緊張しなかったわけではありませんが、私以上に緊張していらっしゃる様子を見て、私は絶対にそれを表に出してはいけないな、と思いました。椅子の横に箱ティッシュを置いて汗を拭きながら、ときには泣いてしまう方の涙も拭いて差し上げながら、そんなふうに進んでいきました。来てくださった方の多くは、今犬と暮らしている方、あるいは以前暮らしていた方でしたが、中には単純にムンゲや私の絵のファンでいてくださる方々もいらっしゃいました。お一人おひとりとても熱い愛情で足を運んでくださったことが伝わってきて、私は「自分はなんて恵まれているんだろう」と思いながらも、私の後ろ、隣に大きく存在しているムンゲのことに思い至り、その家族として、そして表現する者として感謝しました。
本当に皆さまにお会いできて光栄でした。
皆さんもご存じのとおり、私は普段、作品の中でムンゲ以外の犬をあまり描きません。
私は犬を描く人というよりも、基本的には自我を表現する人間であり、その中でムンゲがいちばん大きな存在として居続けている、というのが大きな理由です。本当にひどい自己中心で、頑固なんですよね。書いてきた本もエッセイばかりですし。
だからこそ、サイン会のような対面のときには、私のほうからお声がけして、もしご希望があれば描かせていただいています。正直、ムンゲではない子を描くのは自信がなくて緊張するのですが、それでもできるだけ一生懸命描いて、喜んでくださるお顔を見ると嬉しくなります。
サイン会でいただいたおいしいお菓子を、ソウルのスタジオでおいしくいただきながら、皆さんのお手紙もすべて読みました。
緊張してあまり話せなかった方も、お手紙の中ではたくさんのことを伝えてくださっていて、
やはりテキストの力は大きいなと思いました。
私に気を遣って韓国語でお手紙書いてくださった方もいらっしゃいましたし、
星になった家族のお話や、新しく家族になった犬たちのお話もたくさんありました。ずっと大切にします。これまでにいただいたお手紙やメッセージは、すべて専用の引き出しに大切に保管しています。
また次にお会いできる機会があれば嬉しいです。

I can't reply to DM one by one. I'm sorry. Currently, there is no sale of paintings. It will be sold in an individual exhibition scheduled for next year.
And the sales of the prints are currently not available for overseas delivery outside of Korea. As for the prints, I'm looking for a way to make it possible.
It may take some time, but please understand.
