It’s quite amazing to think Yarrow really began as a small online idea during Covid, and somehow became the starting point for everything that followed.
A few years later, we’re still cooking online with the EY team, which feels very special, especially seeing how much our setup, confidence and teaching has evolved over time.
One of the nicest parts is seeing familiar faces return year after year.

Yarrow Cookery School chose my Fairy Glen wallpaper, which I printed in a limited edition larger scale for their space. A design created from over a hundred layers of petals and stems….it may seem quiet and soft from a distance, but full of detail when you look closely. Buds, butterflies and sweet peas reveal themselves amongst the layers.
is a fabulous destination cookery school, set within a restored 200 year old Steading near my home turf in East Lothian. Surrounded by greenery, woodland and even a florist next door, it felt very lovely to help bring a little flourish of floral inside into their welcoming kitchen interior.

A few moments from this weekend in the steading. Sushi nights, flatbread feasts, lots of herbs, flour covered tables and lots of time spent around the table together.

No tickets, just a very simple first evening for us to trial the bar on a larger scale and see how it goes.
It’s something we’ve been talking about for a while, and we’re really excited to begin bringing this to life!
We hope this will be the first of a few courtyard drinks evenings over the summer and something we can slowly grow into, as we learn what works best.

The courtyard is coming back to life, the doors are open more often and everything feels a little lighter and greener again.
For anyone new here, we’re Yarrow Cookery School in Longniddry, East Lothian, just 18 minutes from Edinburgh by train.
When you visit Yarrow, there’s so much here to enjoy.
Start with a coffee at, pick up something beautiful from, spend some time moving or resetting with, or just slow down and enjoy being here.
Richard and I are in most days (sometimes more than once!) whether it’s picking up something we’ve forgotten or just having a wander. It’s one of those shops you always want to stay in a little longer.
We’re also looking forward to visiting the newly opened this month with the girls.
There’s a gym here to, along with offices filled with some really brilliant businesses, from architecture with Ed to garden design.
Beautiful onsite accommodation, a music therapy space and a travel health clinic are all almost ready and will be opening soon.
The largest part of the steading is currently still being restored by Reywood, where a bar and restaurant will open in time.
And there’s so much more to discover here.

It’s not often you get the chance to cook alongside someone like Emma and ask questions throughout the day. There’s a real sense of time and space to properly understand things, rather than just listen. Relaxed, informal, and completely different to what you might expect. For anyone who missed it, we’ll be running another day in September. We’re also starting to plan a two-day version for next year.
