A warm welcome to little "Poppy," our first fawn of the year.
Surrounded by her stuffed animal friends, she is now cozy and warm after experiencing the heartbreaking loss of her mother shortly after birth.
Despite being only a few days old, Poppy has already shown remarkable resilience, surviving a cold, wet night all on her own. How scary that must have been for her.
Now that she feels safe, her sweet demeanour shines through, and she eagerly slurps down her bottle, determined to grow big and strong!
Soon, more orphaned fawns will arrive, and Poppy will be there to calm and reassure them that they are in a safe and caring environment. A big responsibility for such a little girl!
Campfire Casualties.
Please remember to check for nests before lighting the brush in your fire pit.
By piling scrub brush, sticks and leaves into your campfire pit, you create a perfect home for many animals to build their nest in. Don't set it on fire before checking!
This is the second litter of cottontail rabbits brought to us with burns on their backs and bellies. Thankfully, with intensive care, most of them are surviving.
Always look before you light.
An update on the sweet raven found injured in the bush.
He is halfway on a long road to recovery, and our fingers are crossed that he will fly free once again.
❤❤Donations towards his care would be greatly appreciated❤❤
Reuniting a raven family - so rewarding!
A Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there who raised us with love and made us kids feel like "kings of the castle"!
It took a village, actually, 3 villages, to help this sick fox get back on its feet again.
The poor boy was barely surviving. Inflicted with mange and broken teeth, he was in bad shape. Our wonderful volunteer in Gravenhurst, Yvette Anderson, came to his rescue. After many days of trying, she successfully live-trapped him and brought him to us. We immediately noticed his tongue was hanging out of his mouth, and as soon as his mange was under control, we called in our wildlife dentist, Dr. Ian Bishop from Coboconk, who quickly fixed the problem by extracting 3 fractured, painful teeth.
Two months later, Mr. Fox was released back home, happy, healthy and pain-free.
One hurt fox + Yvette + WWS + dentist + Yvette = SUCCESS!
Help Yvette help us and help wildlife in need. With escalating gas prices, a small donation for gas would be greatly appreciated
There are some releases that stay with you, and this was one of them. 💛

Our beautiful Goldeneye duck has made her way back home to Buckhorn, right where her story with us began.

On a cold day, she mistook wet pavement for water and landed hard, fracturing her sternum. The impact left her little legs splayed; she couldn’t walk and was pushing herself along with her wings when kind-hearted Sandy found her and called us.

For 12 days, she rested in a full body wrap while we all quietly hoped for the best. And then… the moment we removed it, she stood. Strong, steady, and determined. Not long after, she was swimming happily in her pool, feasting on fish and mealworms (with excellent manners, we might add). A sweet, gentle soul who gained back her strength and quite a bit of happy weight too!

Caring for her was truly something special. Watching her heal, trust, and thrive reminded us exactly why we do what we do.

Seeing her glide back into the waters of Buckhorn felt like the perfect ending, and a beautiful new beginning.

Thank you, Sandy, for being her hero that day.

To everyone who was touched by the story of this sweet raven that Brandon found mauled in the woods, here's an update on his condition.
When Brandon found him, she thought he was dead. She rushed him to us, and after warming up in an incubator, and him knowing he was safe, he stood up, and so we began his treatment. After giving him pain meds and antibiotics, we deep-cleaned his wounds, bandaged him up and hoped for the best. He is suffering from deep punctures to both wings, the top of his head, and a large patch of skin on his left thigh is gone.
For the past few weeks, he has been receiving daily bandage changes and physio on his wing, which is a concern, as the joint can and will seize up as it heals.
He is such a good boy and an amazing patient. He takes his meds without much fuss and rarely bites, except when we are working on a sore spot.
After every treatment, we thank him for his courage and patience and give him a mouse as a special treat. He has come to expect it!

Thank you for your concern and for helping us with his care with your kind donations. We are very grateful for your support.
Spring has sprung, and so have all the babies.
These 5 newborn Eastern Gray squirrels were found after their mom built an elaborate nest in a boat that had been relocated. Sadly, attempts to reunite were unsuccessful.
Today is Day 3 of being in our care, and we're happy to say, they are all squirrely and thriving!
