We have built a beautiful and supportive community at Women’s Wellness Project and would love to find someone who is excited to become part of it.

Urinary leakage isn’t always caused by the same thing which is why assessment matters.

For some women, leakage can be related to:
• A weak pelvic floor
• Reduced support from connective tissue and ligaments
• Pregnancy, birth, menopause, or prolapse changes

But for others, the pelvic floor may actually be:
• Overly tight or overactive
• Not functioning or relaxing properly
• Contributing to urgency, frequency, or bladder symptoms

An overactive bladder can also be driven by habits we don’t realise we’re doing daily “just in case” wees, hovering over toilets, going too frequently, rushing, straining, or poor pressure management.

This is why women’s health physio is never one-size-fits-all. The treatment for one person’s leakage may be completely different to someone else’s. 🌸💜
How long does it take to improve bladder leakage with pelvic floor exercises? 👇

The answer depends on why you’re leaking.

🌸 If the issue is mainly coordination, timing, or understanding how to correctly activate and relax your pelvic floor muscles, many people notice improvements in as little as 3 weeks.

💪 If the problem is primarily reduced muscle strength, it usually takes around 6–8 weeks to see significant changes, with some people requiring up to 12 weeks of consistent training for optimal results.

⚠️ It’s also important to know that pelvic floor exercises aren’t the whole story. Research suggests that around 12% of women may not respond adequately to pelvic floor muscle training alone, often due to factors such as connective tissue laxity, nerve injury, or other underlying pelvic floor dysfunction.

The good news? That doesn’t mean nothing can be done. A women’s health physiotherapist can assess the underlying cause and discuss other treatment options that may help.

Every pelvic floor is different so if you’re not seeing results, it may be time to look beyond just doing more squeezes.

Things you might see in the clinic 🌸
🩷 love being able to see this transition 🥰
Pelvic floor exercises are NOT an overnight fix.
But the research is actually really encouraging… 🌸🌸😊

• By week 3, women saw up to a 46.9% decrease in symptoms
• Around 60% noticed a change within 1 month
• By weeks 4–6, over 70% had significant improvement
• By 12 weeks, almost everyone had improved

So why does it take longer for some women?
For many women, pelvic floor rehab is about improving coordination, awareness and learning how to properly relax and contract the muscles.

For others, it’s true muscle weakness and strength takes longer to build.

This is why consistency matters.

Progress isn’t always instant, but it IS happening.
