When I started my work in skincare I was definitely the odd one of the bunch. I didnāt fit in within the beauty industry, its synthetic skincare products, 5 step routines and application of machines rather than hands in the treatment room. I was all about skin-healing plants, healthy food, and a whole lot of face massage.
It may be hard to believe today but at that time (late 90ās) my approach was very forward and breaking ground was not always easy. It took a while but eventually I found words to describe my āuniqueā approach. I called it the āMINDFUL BEAUTY PRACTICEā.
It felt great to find words which honestly represented the essence of my work.
They spoke to the fact that I was being mindful about the products and ingredients which I used on my clientās skin, the foods for healthy skin I recommended, and the impact that my practice had on the environment.
It was also an invitation for my clients to become mindful in their daily practice, mindful about seasonal changes and the intricate connection of the skin to their internal health both physical and emotional.

A pioneering psychologist Dr.Paul Ekman is such in my life both professionally and personally. I never met him in person but I found his book āEmotions revealedā nearly twenty years ago and have been following his work ever since.
āDr. Ekmanās groundbreaking research transformed our understanding of human emotion, facial expression, deception and compassion. His work revolutionized and stimulated the field of emotion research and inspired applications across psychology, anthropology, education, law enforcement, and many other fields worldwide.
We can add a facialist to that list:) And I trust more than one.
Thanks to Dr. Ekman I was able to appreciate the significance of emotions, facial expression and facial tension patterns that we each hold. It solidified my believe in the importance of free facial expression in genuine human interactions and it gave more meaning to my face massage practice.
Dr. Paul Ekman passed away at 91 but his work will live on.
I wish to acknowledge his life and work with deep gratitude!
Dr. Ekman served as Scientific Advisor to the āLie to meā show. He analyzed and critiqued each episodeās script and taught the cast and crew about the science of deception detection.

How wonderful is nature to push us gently into the opportunity for transformation as each season passes and each begins.
