many still prefer wild safaris over sanctuaries. The reasons are emotional, psychological, social, and sometimes misunderstood.

1. The “real Africa” fantasy
People grow up dreaming of open savannahs, lions hunting, and elephants roaming free. Safaris feel cinematic and adventurous. Sanctuaries feel quieter, even when they are more ethical.

2. People want excitement, not responsibility
Safaris promise thrill and unpredictability. Sanctuaries ask visitors to slow down, listen, learn, and reflect. That can feel heavy on holiday.

3. Sanctuaries confront uncomfortable truths
They talk about poaching, captive breeding, human caused trauma, and why some animals cannot return to the wild. Many people do not want to face this.

4. Misconception about sanctuaries
Many think sanctuary means zoo and safari means freedom. In reality, ethical sanctuaries rescue animals that cannot survive in the wild, and safaris also operate in human managed spaces.

5. Sanctuaries have rules
No touching, no selfies, no feeding, no close encounters. People often see rules as restriction, not care.

6. Social media pressure
Safari photos are praised. Sanctuary posts invite questions and debate. People choose what feels socially safe.

7. The illusion of freedom
Wild animals look completely free, but what we do not see are fences, population control, and tourism pressure. Sanctuaries are simply more transparent.

8. Inspiration over education
Safaris inspire awe. Sanctuaries educate. Education requires humility, and not everyone wants that on vacation.

People do not avoid sanctuaries because they do not care.
They avoid them because sanctuaries reflect human responsibility, while safaris feel like nature without consequence.

Both have a place.
Ethical sanctuaries are honest about the cost of human impact.

Visiting Cheetah Outreach conservation facility and learning about their program. 🐆

These cheetahs were born in human care and hand-reared, which means release isn’t ethical but responsibility and lifetime care is.

What is hand-reared?
The cubs were raised by humans instead of their mother (often because the mother couldn’t care for them, rejected them, or died). This makes them unsuitable for life in the wild.

Personally, I didn’t know about this at all.

Why do they let the interaction happen?

This was not “go in and cuddle an animal.” No posing, no restraint, no tricks. Direct, respectful encounters can create stronger empathy. This leads to support for conservation, funding, and coexistence programs.

It’s not about entertainment - it’s about changing attitudes, especially in communities where cheetahs are often feared or killed.

Why there are Anatolian dogs in this place?

The Anatolian Shepherd dogs here are part of a livestock-guarding programme that helps farmers protect their animals without harming predators.
By reducing livestock losses, farmers are less likely to kill cheetahs in retaliation. Instead of attacking predators, they deter cheetahs, leopards, and jackals simply by their presence.

The dogs are trained on site.

This coexistence approach has proven to be one of the most effective ways to protect free-ranging cheetahs outside national parks.

At first I didn’t really get it, adoption?
but then I understood it’s simply a way to support and care for them from afar.
When I found a lion born on the same day as my mom, it felt like a sign.
So this is my small yes, with a big heart 🦁💛

I’m not here for outrage…
I’m here for understanding.

Reading the stories on the gates here was heavy.
Some of them stay with you.

But this isn’t about collecting sad stories or pointing fingers.

It’s about learning why true sanctuaries exist and what they actually do for animals who can’t go back to the wild.

Ethics aren’t black and white.
Context matters.
Responsibility matters more than perfection.

For a moment, I stepped out of my usual world
to listen, observe, and understand a different one.

Not to perform compassion.
But to respect the work that gives them safety, space, and dignity, for life.
I don’t train to prove anything.
I train because discipline keeps me honest.
Because movement keeps me sane.
Because strength gives me freedom.

I’m strong where it matters.
Soft where it’s safe.
And deeply protective of the people I love.

I carry a big heart,
but I’ve learned to guard it with intention.
I trust myself.
I trust life.
And I move forward with gratitude for where I am
and courage for where I’m going.

I hope the future holds strength, freedom, and peace,
not just for me,
but for the people closest to my heart.
