On Saturday whilst I was teaching, Nordic elf took advantage of having the amazing haberdashery emporium that is William Gee all to herself.
She had so much fun dashing around the store looking at all the cool stuff.
First up was the adjustable mannequin- not essential but a useful addition to a sewing room.
Threads- the building block of all sewing projects, Nordic elf was dazzled by how many colours, weights and sizes there were.
Next up she spotted some posh patterns, aka although there wasn’t an elf size option for her! 😂
The scissor cabinet captivated Nordic elf, so many dreamy options here. I’ve promised to take her back…
If you need ribbons and who doesn’t at this time of year, then you’re spoilt for choice at William gee.
Nordic elf was flabbergasted at just how many different zips there were in stock.
If you work with heavy fabrics or long lengths then a cast iron cloth/pattern weight might be the thing you need. Elfie thought they were sleighs and felt a little homesick.
The Prym mini irons are not just useful for elves! They are perfect for small sewing spaces and little pressing tasks. Quilters and bag makers love them.
And finally Nordic elf found the buttons. Because buttons can make or break a sewing project and there are soo many to choose from here.
I had to drag Nordic elf away from and she’s been glued to the website ever since planning what to take back home for her crafty elf chums.

This is a great question, and here’s why the humble stocking is a fantastic seasonal learn to sew project
#1- you’ll start the class learning all the machine basics you’ll need for all kinds of future sewing
#2- You’ll get practical hands on experience of using a simple pattern and cutting it out in fabric under the expert guidance of a tutor
#3- stockings have curved sections, so you’ll leave the class knowing not just how to sew in a straight line, but how to sew tricky shapes too.
#4- you’ll spend time creating a unique one of a kind design that only you will have. Plus you’ll use a variety of materials like ribbon, trims and appliqué skills.
#5- you’ll be gifting yourself a life long skill, one that is truly valuable and can lead on so many different directions.
And all this happens in a group with other beginners, so you’ll feel safe that everyone is on the same level. It’s also super fun making in the company of others too.

Over 3 hours I will gently guide you on how to thread a machine, wind a bobbin, sew straight lines curves and corners, and create simple seams
You’ll discover how to layout a simple pattern, cut out fabric and design your own totally unique stocking, just in time for the holidays
Making a stocking allows some time to play as it’s just such a fun joyful project. You’ll mix fabrics, add ribbon loops and master the curves of a stocking.
And if you’d really don’t want a stocking a simple tote bag is a great alternative option.
By lunchtime Saturday you’ll have caught the sewing bug, and can hit the local fabric shops to gather your supplies for project 2.
