That beak. That face. That impossible stack of fish. The puffin is simply unlike anything else.

One of the most uniquely extraordinary birds on the planet and yes, they really do carry that many fish at once.

Do you know how? Here’s the secret:
🐟 Puffins have backward-pointing spines on the roof of their mouth and a specially hinged jaw, allowing them to hold one fish firmly in place while catching the next. They can carry up to 30 fish in a single trip. The record? 62.
🐟 They “fly” underwater to catch them, diving up to 60 metres deep, using their wings to propel themselves.
🐟 That iconic colourful beak? It fades to grey every winter and regrows in vibrant colour each spring for breeding season.
🐟 They spend the majority of their lives entirely at sea, only coming to land to breed.

Probably one of my favorite stares ever captured through my lens.

There’s something about those eyes that stops time for a moment. Curious. Intense. Almost impossible to look away from.

One melanistic serval is the rarest thing most wildlife photographers will ever see. Keep swiping. 🖤

Africa. A genetic rarity so extreme that encounters are almost never documented and we found something even more extraordinary than one.

A few things that make this even more mind-blowing:
🖤 Melanism in servals is estimated to occur in less than 1% of the entire serval population, making it one of the rarest coat variations of any wild cat on earth.
🖤 Like melanistic leopards, they still carry their original spotted markings beneath the black fur, barely visible, but there.
🖤 Servals have the longest legs relative to body size of any cat, built to leap up to 3 metres into the air to catch birds mid-flight.
🖤 With a hunting success rate of around 50%, they are one of the most efficient predators in the wild cat family.
🖤 Melanistic servals are most commonly found in the highlands of East Africa, where cooler temperatures may favour darker coats.

Now keep swiping. The surprise at the end is worth it. 👇

Follow for the wild encounters that defy all probability.

My name is Alex, and I’m a wildlife photographer. 🐾 I’m the third generation in my family to follow this path; my grandfather built his own camera before World War II, my father carried on the passion, and I inherited it from him.

I received my first Nikon film camera from my grandfather’s brother, and at the age of seven, I traveled to South Africa for the first time. That’s when everything began. Since then, I’ve spent over 25 years exploring more than 50 countries, photographing everything from spirit bears in Canada to western lowland gorillas in Central Africa. 🌍📸

Photography became more than a hobby, it became a family passion. Traveling together has created memories that will stay with us forever. My father and I even use the same equipment, which often sparks a friendly competition between us.

Today, my goal goes beyond personal passion. I want to raise awareness, inspire people to care about wildlife, and show the fragility of our planet’s animals. Every image tells a story, and through those stories, I hope to connect people to conservation.

Much love,
Alex

Usually I’m behind the camera, but today, I have stepped in front of it. And for a good reason.

After many of you asked where to get my prints or book… I’m excited to finally launch my new online shop!

🖼️ Fine Art Prints; gallery-quality, printed with the same supplier I used during exhibitions
📖 Our coffee table book; 25+ years of wildlife moments, in English & German

This is a personal milestone. My father and I spent 1.5 years curating and crafting this book. It’s a tribute to our shared love for nature and photography.
