If you need to put a hole in something like this the only logical thing to do is make it a bum hole right!? I really couldnāt help myself š itās too fun to say and too fun to look at!
As per usual I struggled with the finishing movesā¦ and this time that was the tail. I really thought I had planned this out that the tail would be an easy way to finish this off but alas it messed up a bit. Oh well, I get to practice on 4 more dinos so hopefully by the end Iāll have it down!

We are almost there!!!
Getting the bridges off the feet was super easy, getting him to sit flatā¦ not so much. Next time I will have to use my outer flame because it was difficult to get all his little feet hot at the same time. It took a bit of fidgeting but I got there.
I almost forgot that I had to pop a hole in this piece, and because I will forever be a child of course I decided I wanted to make it a bum hole š stay tuned for tomorrowās video, the final assembly video, where we give him a bum hole and get his tail pulled out!

Itās really coming together now!! I had surprisingly few issues with the legs. Itās really hard to stick āem on the right spot and it seems you just gotta commit to wherever they land, but they more or less went where I wanted them.
I did have a couple little hiccups I didnāt show but they were pretty minor. I learned after the first leg that I should bridge them because when I was melting it in it migrated a bit from where I wanted it. And I didnāt quite heat up the 3rd leg enough when I stuck it so that one took a long time to melt in and the pattern thinned out a lot at the connection so I had to add some extra blue glass but that was about the worst of it.
Also I started off with my 7 hole blast shield tip on my miniā¦ I think thatās what itās called? Anyway I really donāt like that tip so I just swapped back to the usual one everyone tells me not to use š

Itās finally time for the eye murrine! I learned immediately that you really donāt have to give the murrine much heat or it will mush and distort pretty easily š«
I didnāt have high expectations for how this little Dino was going to look but I am happy I have got to a point where I am brave enough to rip off something Iām not happy with and try again. In the end it was totally worth it, I love his little eyes and how wide set they are!! š

Well I am pretty sure this isnāt the best way to do it, but I got the body shape done. I was really pleased to discover that attaching the bridge and then puffing up the body a bit more worked well.
I know this part isnāt very exciting but donāt worry, the fun stuff starts tomorrow!

I really hummed and hawed about if I should add this part to the series since we really just end up back where we started with the same head/neck shape. Ultimately I opted to leave it in because, well, this is learning. Sometimes you have to try and fail in order to learn and succeed.
After fidgeting around with the head portion I decided it just wasnāt going to way I wanted it to. Fortunately I prepped a tube larger than what I needed and just decided to start again.
I was MUCH happier with attempt number two. I learned that using gravity to pull the neck out a bit didnāt distort the pattern as much. And although I lost control a bit there it still turned out looking much better than attempt #number one.

I live on Vancouver Island off the west coast of British Columbia šØš¦ In case you were ever wondering where the name āWild Isle Glassā came fromā¦ thatās it. I absolutely love where I live, and dream to one day capture the beauty of this wild, wonderful place in glass.
I was originally drawn to traditional glass blowing, but living on an island limits things a bit and unfortunately it just wasnāt feasible for me. BUT, I then discovered this super cool thing called flameworking and learned I could set up my own studio at home!! I was sold! I got to work creating a workspace and have been playing with glass ever since!
I am teaching myself and thought documenting my journey would be a great way to meet other flame workers. I never would have imagined things would grow to where they are now! I feel my focus is now to show others how much fun it can be to fully embrace the process of learning. Do things always work out? Absolutely not, but if you try your best and learn along the way thatās all that really matters. This goes for any art form!
Iāve had a plan in my mind from the very beginning to work with solid glass for my first year on the torch, and switch to hollow for year two. I am hoping this will set me up to be a well rounded glass artist with a decent foundation to grow from. I really enjoy solid work but find my mind is now constantly buzzing with all the new ideas and possibilities hollow work brings.
I am so excited to see where this journey takes me!
