I’m Dr. Sandy Rhee and I’m the Department Chair of Psychiatry at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine/Midwestern University, which is where I attended and graduated medical school in 2006. I completed my psychiatry residency and child psychiatry fellowship in Philadelphia. I’m back in Chicago, teaching and advising students who are interested in Psychiatry. I also work full-time as a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist in the Chicagoland area.
I became interested in culinary medicine since my third year of medical school; I wanted to do more than prescribe medications for my patients, go further than just tell them to eat healthy and exercise more.
I’m hoping to teach and inspire medical students and the community about the importance of healthy cooking and eating, and how it can play a huge role in our patients’ physical and mental health. Culinary medicine can help prevent and reduce the severity common medical problems such diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and development of chronic medical conditions. Certain foods can also help our mental health, improve depression, anxiety and one’s attention. We also go over how to make fruits and vegetables more delicious and attractive to everyone!
I’ll bring medical students to connect with a food insecurity community.
