Raising tobacco taxes saves lives and strengthens economies. 🚭📈

In Tanzania, tobacco use claims over 21,800 lives each year and costs billions in healthcare and lost productivity. Through collaboration with Parliament, Ministries and partners, WHO supported the use of the WHO-TaXSiM model to strengthen evidence-based tobacco taxation policies.

Effective tobacco taxes can reduce smoking, prevent youth initiation, ease the burden on health systems, and generate sustainable domestic revenue for health and development priorities.
