During our private canyoneering tour with Zion Guru, our guides coached us through each rappel ranging from 10 to 80 feet!
At the bottom of some drops, there were pools of water waiting for us, so we learned a few techniques to avoid a soggy landing—such as bridging across using our hands and feet or swinging out on the rope Indiana Jones style! We also tried free climbing, bum scooching, and sliding down chutes!

Without hesitation, our answer is always the same: our spontaneous 4-day detour to the Arctic Ocean on the Dempster Highway in Yukon and Northwest Territories.
We set out on this drive in September, expecting vast expanses of monotonous tundra. Instead, we were surprised with a rainbow landscape as the seasons changed.

Standing on the edge of the mesa makes you feel like you’re standing on the edge of another planet. Its moon-like terrain stretches as far as the eye can see.
We stayed here overnight and woke to beautiful snow covering the landscape, which really added to the surrealism!
Getting There:
- From Hanksville, put, - into your google maps and off you go!
- A high-clearance vehicle would be helpful due to the rough road conditions but 4x4 isn’t required.
- Please leave no trace! The desert is a fragile ecosystem and needs to be cared for. Stay on roads and already created campsites.
