I wanted to wish everyone a happy New Year and give some sort of explanation for my disappearance. I have no idea if people will even see this as I have been away for so long (we know what the Instagram algorithm is like!). I can’t remember the last time I took an insta-worthy photo of the house either, so here’s one from last year.
I started this account during maternity leave over lockdown when I felt a bit isolated stuck on my own all day with a newborn. Over time, it turned into something similar to my day job with monthly post planning and scheduling and time set aside each day so I could engage with people. After RTE Home of the Year, it jumped to another level and I felt overwhelmed and suddenly tired of it all.
I loved making new connections and made a few friendships I would never have had if I hadn’t started this account, but it was taking up so much of my time and in Easter I realised I couldn’t do everything and needed to prioritise. The time I spent on Instagram was better spent on my family and myself, so the social media notifications were switched off and I have been spending quality time with my boys and focusing on my own health and fitness and it has been refreshing.
I have been debating whether or not to come back for quite a few months now and over Christmas made the decision to take a break indefinitely. I may come back if I ever get a new project to work on, but at the minute continuing with this account isn’t right for me or my young family.
Thank you to everyone who sent me messages. I really do appreciate it and hope that we can reconnect at some stage in the future. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that you have an amazing 2023.
Take care of yourselves and thank you for your support 💙
Michelle xx

I’m ready to eat my body weight in chocolate (I may have already started!).

Happy Tuesday! Between Rob being away for the weekend and Charlie getting a stomach bug yesterday I have been a bit quiet on here, but I have something exciting / terrifying to share.
The lovely Kate (aka winner of 2022) and I are doing an insta live tomorrow at 8pm (my first ever! 😬) and we’ll be chatting all things house. We’ll be covering renovation tips and trials, our love of old furniture, functional styling, giving a home personality, home of the year and more. So pour yourself a tipple or a cup of tea and join us to ask the questions you want (you can also pop them in the question box on our stories beforehand). Hopefully we’ll see you there 💙 xx
I really appreciate every single like, save, comment, share and message. I didn’t think I needed to put my face on the grid again, so I’ve used our spring hallway instead. Swipe if you want a close-up of the door wreath. I am loving the colours! You can swipe again to see the face behind the account. I thought it was a good time to share a few facts about me:
* I spent most of my childhood living in Armagh before heading to Edinburgh for uni, where I lived for 8 years (plus 1 year party…I mean studying in Spain)
* I moved to Belfast in 2011 & have been here ever since. I am still a country girl at heart though & hope to move out of the city at some stage in the future.
* I am a marketing manager for a manufacturing company & I have worked in the construction industry for 15 years.
* I have dreamt of building my own house since I was a teenager. Maybe one day it will become a reality 🤞🏻
* Rob and I met in uni, but it took us 10 years to get together (I won’t put the reason why in the caption but feel free to DM me if you want to know 🤢). We married 6 years ago & have 2 boys – Charlie & Noah.
* Aside from having my kids & getting through to the final, one of my proudest moments was singing a duet in Notre Dame Cathedral as part of the school choir because I was quite shy & it took a lot for me to do it.
* I used to work part time at events for a radio station in Edinburgh & found myself squished in a lift with Girls Aloud, awkwardly snubbed by Katie Melua & left red-faced when I opened a door on a semi-clad G4 (does anyone remember them?!)
* Finally, I love travelling to other countries & experiencing new things but my favourite place in the world is Donegal. Miles of white sandy beaches, the most beautiful, rugged landscape & great craic in the Irish pubs!
Do any of them surprise you? I was going to include some favourites / dislikes but the post is already long so I’ll do a quiz on stories. See how many you get right! Thanks again for following. If you stick around you’ll find more styling & renovation tips, craft & seasonal inspiration, a bit of DIY & upcycling with the odd recipe or cleaning hack thrown in xx
Well, did you enjoy watching the final last night? I thought the homes looked even more gorgeous, if that was even possible. Thanks for all the lovely messages. It was such a beautiful setting at Palmerstown House Estate and we had great craic chatting to the other finalists throughout the day, although would you believe none of us remembered to get a group photo?! 🤦🏼♀️
It was a bit of a dream meeting the judges and my takeaways are Amanda saying she “got a lovely feeling standing in the kitchen” in our home and Hugh telling me that I had “been bold with my colour schemes”. It has been a running joke in my family that I always gravitate towards greys and neutrals (they used to call our home “Fifty shades”) and I don’t think I realised how much my colour preference had changed over time (Instagram definitely had a part to play in that - it made me brave to show my colourful side 😂).
I won’t waffle on but I wanted to say a huge congratulations to Kate and Shane on their well deserved win - a home full of character and warmth and I absolutely love it. Well done to the other finalists too and Martin & Saoirse. Such stunning homes and my favourite part of this competition was meeting you all. Hopefully our paths will cross again in the future.
Thank you to and for putting us through to the final. We felt so lucky to be there.
Finally, a huge thank you to the fabulous team behind the scenes who helped to calm our nerves, made us look presentable, caught our home in the best light and kept smiling even when I was on my 23rd take trying to say one line 🙈
It has been the best experience and I will be forever grateful that Rob persuaded me to give it a go 💙

Will you be tuning in? It has been one heck of a ride. I’m sure the other contestants will back me up when I say there is no better motivator to get all those delayed jobs around your house completed or to scrub your home from top to bottom than when you hear it is going to be on national TV (and I still missed some grubby fingerprints on the kitchen cabinets) 😂 Needless to say, September was a whirlwind of paint, vinegar (if you know, you know), picture hooks and delivery boxes.
I thought it would be a good time to look back on how it all started. These were the estate agent photos compared to how our home looks now after renovating. Goodbye damp magnolia walls, hello cosy family home.
Good luck to all the finalists tonight 🍀 It’s hard to believe it’s coming to an end after all this time.

Many of you will know I love setting the table for a special occasion (I get a couple of hours to myself being creative…what’s not to like?!), so I was delighted to style a tablescape with Easter products from one of my favourite brands 💛 I even made a mini egg cheesecake for the occasion and enjoyed eating it too! What is your favourite Easter treat?
Swipe for close ups of the products I used. You can get 15% off non-sale items on the Sophie Allport website using MICH15 until the 18th April. I’ll post a link to my stories.
PR products used on the table:
- Hare napkins (I already owned the runner)
- Powder blue and white stitch ribbon
- Runner duck jug
- Small and medium glass cloche
- Hare felt decoration
PR products used on the hanging light:
- Apple blossom stems
- Mini leaf branches
- Decorative hanging eggs
Except for putting it in the dryer, taking it out, folding it and putting it away. Here are some utility room print ideas for anyone else fighting a losing battle with laundry, or are you a serial plant killer like me? 🙈
How amazing has the weather been this week?! I’d love to say I was out enjoying the sun but my highlight was looking at it shining through the windows while I worked (that and drying my sheets outside 😂). It has been getting me excited about summer trips to to coast though. Have you managed to get outside?
We were supposed to be going out with the family for my brother’s birthday tonight and they were staying over but the table for 8 has dropped by 2 every other day this week because of the big C, so Rob and I have an unexpected date night (we weren’t for wasting the babysitting services!). I would have loved to see everyone, but I’m trying to look on the bright side… I don’t have to iron these sheets for guests!
This morning, I’m making a quick trip to a flower shop and continuing with some Easter styling (I popped a couple of photos up on my stories from yesterday’s faffing). It involves the mini egg cheesecake, which I will be tucking into straight after 🍰 What’s your favourite cheesecake flavour?
Gone are the times we spent a good part of the day in an Irish pub wearing a Guinness hat and singing at the tops of our voices. Instead we are having a quiet evening with the kids, eating Irish stew and wheaten bread 🤪 Maybe I’ll pour myself a gin once the kids are in bed. I’ll post a few “before” photos to my stories later.
I hope you have all had a great St Paddy’s Day! ☘️
