According to Forrester, the digital economy is expected to hit $16.5 trillion by 2028, equating to 17% of global gross domestic product, and with almost two-thirds of the total number coming from the U.S. and China.
Some of the sectors that will increase their share in the upcoming years are online retail and online travel, with 9% and 7% CAGR from 2023 to 2028, respectively.
Digital economy growth drivers can be divided into four core areas, as per the report:
1. Digital businesses
2. Digital skills availability
3. Digital public services
4. Digital research and development
Digital businesses, many of which are funded by advertising, are a major driver of growth. Putting a price on free advertising-driven digital goods would increase the size of the digital economy by 25%. Room for growth still remains, especially in the European Union, where just 45% of enterprises have adopted the cloud and only 1/3 use data to improve decision making.
Tech spend, according to the report, will be provided not only by private companies, but the public sector as well. In order to successfully scale the global economy, tech spend on public services must reach $881 billion by 2024. As the report states, "The average total tech spend growth per year in Europe from 2024 to 2027 is forecast to be β¬83 billion, significantly lower than the β¬125 billion required by the European Commission to reach digital growth targets."

Multichannel marketing remains a key to campaign success, however knowing which channels to utilize has grown increasingly complicated with the decreasing attention of consumers. According to a recent Ascend2 report, creating an effective strategy was listed as a core challenge for 53% of marketers executing a multichannel marketing plan.
However, despite it being somewhat of a hassle, most marketers agree that it's necessary to achieve strategic priorities. 30% of marketers declared they found tremendous success with multichannel marketing (jump from the 17% last year), 65% that it has been somewhat successful and only 5% - that it has not helped them achieve their strategic goals.
Data quality is a top indicator of campaign performance. 52% of marketing professionals listed data quality as an essential aspect of a successful multi-level marketing campaign. A close second was accurate measurement of performance, which 50% of marketing professionals named as a top attribute. Third place belonged to marketing automation, which was listed as a top successful component by 37% of professionals.
Looking at tools and tactics, social mediaβs position as the top tactic in 2024 underscores its critical role in multichannel marketing strategies. 70% of marketing professionals list AI and machine learning as the top emerging trends or technologies which will have an impact on multichannel marketing in the next two to three years. Chatbots and conversational marketing came in a distant second at 45%.

π£ On July 25th, Reddit announced on their Reddit for Business blog that a new advertising format, Lead Generation Ads is now in public beta and will be available for all advertisers globally working directly with the platform. The format, coupled with Reddit's integration with Zapier, is said to "empower businesses to collect high-quality leads from Reddit's engaged and high-intent users more efficiently than ever before".
π On July 1st Reddit has updated its robots.txt file, preventing many search engines and AI tools from crawling the site. While this change has not affected Google, a Microsoft representative confirmed that βBing stopped crawling Reddit after they implemented their updated robots.txt file on July 1, which prohibits all crawling of their siteβ.
Reddit and Google's cooperation seems to be tightening as earlier this year, Reddit struck a content licensing deal with a major AI company (later revealed to be Google) for training the search giant's AI models with the content of the platform. Reddit's ratings in Google Search also increased significantly over the course of last year, as according to Semrush data, the number of URLs ranking in Google jumped from 22 million between May 2023 and 41.1 million in February 2024.
π Reddit's platform improvements and partnerships secured to boost ad revenue have resulted in increased platform popularity. According to eMarketer's June 2024 forecast, Reddit has seen the biggest growth of average time spent per day by US active users among social networks.
Reddit users will increase their time spent on the platform by an average of 11.0% in 2024, averaging 31 minutes (up from 28 minutes last year). Redditβs US ad revenue is forcasted to grow by 27.9%, reaching $741.2 million.

Earlier this week Google announced its plan to keep third-party cookies in the Chrome browser after all. The information was shared via the Privacy Sandbox initiative's blog on Monday and came after years of pledging to phase them out, although the final deadline was postponed numerous times.
Anthony Chavez, vice president of the Privacy Sandbox initiative, stated that a new experience in Chrome would be introduced that would let users make an informed choice regarding their privacy across their web browsing and that they would be able to adjust that choice at any time.
Google will also be working with regulators such as the UK's CMA and Information Commissioner's Office as well as publishers and privacy groups on the new approach, while continuing to invest in the Privacy Sandbox program.
What do you think about this sudden change?

Defined as those born in 2010+, Gen Alpha's unique characteristics are, as research states, a much more mature, grounded perception of brands than their parents had at the same age. They were also heavily influenced by easy access to a technology and media ecosystem that has fostered a wide variety of interests and knowledge-seeking drive. Itβs also made Gen Alpha more discerning and informed when evaluting brands.
One area where Gen Alphaβs heightened skepticism is very apparent is a low level of trust in TV personalities - a group that stood among the top three least-trustworthy assessed by the age segment. The generation does not put much stock in public figures as well, for example, just 21% views athletes and celebrities as role models, as the study reports. Instead, Gen Alpha values content creators and is engaged by βedutainmentβ content.
When ranking their preferred brands, Gen Alpha pointed to technology companies such as Apple and Samsung, or "creativity enablers" like LEGO, while Gen Z preferred brands such as Doritos, M&Ms or Oreos. They also often associate the scale of a company's marketing with low authenticity - for example, just 14% picked a brand as their favorite due a celebrity endorsement while only 20% did so due to the company producing βreally great commercials.β
Other interesting finds are, for example, that the younger generation has twice as much indentifiable interests as Gen Z, however including Gen Zβs preference for gaming and gamified experiences. When asked about brand experiences they would most enjoy, 53% of Gen Alpha cited games and apps that teach useful skills.

The findings suggest a three-pronged approach when it comes to brand growth:
- Predisposing more consumers to a brand,
- Being more present in the consumer lifecycle
- Exploring new spaces for growth.
According to the report, the main growth driver for a brand is being meaningfully different to more people. It increases the probablility of future growth and allows them to charge - and maintain - a price premium. In fact, according to Kantar's data, meaningfully different brands command 5x the market penetration today than those who have not meaningfully differentiated themselves.
Being meaningfully different builds a stronger connection with the brand's consumers, which helps to predispose consumers to the brand and increase their purchase intent. Brands which consumers are more predisposed to, according to Kantar, have 9x higher volume shares of the market, 2x higher price paid and 4x the likelihood of value share, or making more money than the competition from a product.
One of the ways a brand can build meaningful differentiation is by being present across all of the places where buying choices are being made, from search to websites to on physical store shelves. Brands that are consistently present attracted 7x the number of buyers than brands that are present at just 50% of purchasing occasions.
Finally, apart from entering new markets, brands can also benefit from finding additional uses for their existing products. Accordind to the report, brands that are able to find new uses for their products have 2x the chance for growth compared to other brands. Additionally, those who increase uses for a brand by 10% are able to drive 17% growth.

According to a recent Forrester and 4A's report, a total of 91% of US advertising agencies are either already using (61%) or exploring use cases for the technology (30%), outpacing other groups including marketing organizations and the general business population.
Some of the key areas in which generative AI will have significant or very significant impact on the agency's ecosystem, as identified by respondents, were:
1. Content creation (how content is created - 76% - and what content the agency creates for clients - 62%)
2. The agency marketplace (71%)
3. Consumer interactions with the agency's work (69%)
Large agencies are further along the generative AI adoption path, with 78% of respondents at agencies with more than 201 employees saying they leverage the tech compared to only 53% of small agencies, or those with less than 50 employees.
More than half of respondents expect generative AI to have significant or very significant impact on key aspects of their agencyβs ecosystem in the next two years, though concerns remain around legal liabilities, copyright infringement, data privacy and security.
