One of the most magical ✨ moments I’ve experienced in the Scottish Highlands 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Last October, I spent a week in Morvern during the roar. I was lucky enough to spot this beauty in the wild, happily grazing on seaweed and grass.

It’s moments like this I’m so glad I have a Sony camera 😂

Morvern is a real hidden gem, and the perfect destination for wildlife lovers.

I highly recommend the for accommodation 🛌

I’m currently writing a book about Lochaber (the area Morvern is located) and I can’t wait to share it with the world.

📌 SAVE this for future Scotland inspiration

I hope I can encourage you to visit the area yourself!

A fun food and drink experience in Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 AD

Did you know there is a distillery in the heart of the city? Summerhall Distillery is located in the old Edinburgh University Vet School and is a real hidden gem.

The walk from the city centre to the distillery is also a great way to explore a more local side of Edinburgh away from the bustling Royal Mile. I discovered several cafes and bookshops I didn’t know about along the way!

The Disitllery is tucked behind the Summerhall events venue, next to The Royal Dick Pub (a great spot for a drink afterwards).

Summerhall Distillery have several options for tours and food and drink experiences. I loved the Cocktail + Cheese Masterclass (they really DO go together!) and the Scottish Food Experience (which takes place in a speakeasy tucked out of sight from the public!)

Their tours + experiences are a great way to try a variety of local Scottish produce, which pairs perfectly with their whisky and gin.

I think these experiences are going to be a hit in 2026 🥂

Hello 👋 My name is Yvette, and I’m a travel blogger living in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I’m originally from New Zealand (hence my username!) but after several failed relationships I decided to put myself first and go on a crazy adventure around the world!

I moved to Canada for 2 years, learning to snowboard and working on a ski hill and I spent a summer living in Banff in the Canadian Rockies in my van 🚐

Then I moved to my favourite country in the world and home of my ancestors: Scotland! I started my adventure here by hiking the length of the country - a not so wee hike called the Scottish National Trail.

I was the first solo female to complete the 874km hike, in 55 days. I feel like I walked to myself, after I faced some of the hardest mental and physical challenges I’d ever experienced. I also fell even more in love with the Scottish landscape, and I decided I wanted to help others experience all the beauty that Scotland has to offer. I now travel and write about Scotland full time- and help folk plan their dream trips here!

A few months after my hike, I matched with a Scot on Tinder and he asked me out on a date. Exactly one year later, we walked down the aisle together, and I can proudly say that after many failed relationships I finally found my dream man. We’ve been married for 4 years now, and we live in West Lothian with our 1 year old, Alex! 🍼

I’m excited to show you some of my favourite experiences in Scotland and around the world, and some crazy adventures with my wee fam 👨‍👩‍👦🦮

If you’d like some Scotland inspiration, be sure to check out my website (link in bio) and sign up for my newsletter, where I share all my Scotland adventures!

👉 Let me know, where are you from and have you been to Scotland yet?

4 years ago today, I completed the biggest challenge of my life 🚶‍♀️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The experience took a girl, who was too stubborn to admit she was traumatised and broken, 864 kilometres from one end of Scotland to the other on foot with her home on her back.

I walked through a heatwave, a storm, bog, thunder and lightning, midges, thousands of flesh-biting horseflies and self-loathing.

My mantra was simple: keep on walking.

I arrived at the end of Scotland with the most precious gifts - self-love, self-respect, strength, and purpose.

And now, four years later:

💜 I’m a full-time travel writer, travelling around Scotland for a living
💜 I’m married to the man of my dreams
💜 We own our dream house
💜 We have Angus, the best dog we could have wished for
💜 We have a son on the way

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I’ve arrived here. I had to break every fractured bone in my mind, reset them, and then wait for them to mend.

When I reached the northwest coast, I stripped off my clothes and looked down at myself.

I loved my body for the first time. I had spent years trying to starve it into an impossible mould, fed it trash and drowned it in alcohol rather than face my problems. Too often I had lent it to men who abused it.

What I now saw was an incredible ally who had carried me over 500 miles despite years of maltreatment; muscles that shaped my legs and shoulders, arms painted bronze by the sand and the sun, and a soft belly that imitated the rolling hills I had passed in the Borders when I leaned over.

I finally loved myself the way that I had loved other men.

All of the lessons I learned (which are too many to list) I carry with me to this day.

I have a tattoo on my left ankle to remind me of this wild journey back to myself, and someday soon I'll be teaching my son the things I learned on the trail.

One of the most important things you can do is to spend time alone in nature, frequently. Try it, and you'll see what I mean. Your relationship with yourself will improve ten-fold. That inner voice becomes louder and stronger.

P.S. Does anyone want to publish my book? It’s almost finished! 🤪
