Between the striking Gothic architecture, the brilliant blue Danube, and the rolling Buda hills, this city has it all. I spent my days soaking in the fairytale views from the Buda side, wandering the vibrant streets of Pest, and escaping to the lush greenery of Margaret Island. We even ventured out to the artsy colorful cobblestones of Szentendre and the peaceful forests of DobogĆ³ko - the views are world-class. The city is just as stunning at night as it is during the day, so highly recommend night time strolls! ā„ļø
Hungarians also turned out to be unique as their language. They are passionate and definitely ātell it like it isāā¦ as I found out from my many interactions with the locals during my trip.

We left Bucharest while the city was still quiet, headed for the Bulgarian border with nothing but a coffee in hand and a rough itinerary.
Standing at the gates of Tsarevets Fortress, we were surprised by how massive it is. Walking through the medieval stronghold of the Second Bulgarian Empire made me feel so small. You can almost hear the echoes of history in the stone walls. If you follow my stories, you saw that view from the top - itās 360 degrees of pure magic over Veliko Tarnovo. Donāt forget to grab some delicious gelato just outside the castle!
The āhidden gemā of the day:
We stopped at the St. Basarabov Monastery, and Iām still trying to wrap my head around it. Itās the only monastery in Bulgaria carved directly into a cliffside. Thereās a certain kind of hush that falls over you when youāre standing in a room literally hollowed out of a mountain.
Ending the trip in Arbanasi:
We wrapped up in Arbanasi Village, perched high on a plateau. The architecture there looks like it hasnāt changed in centuries. We just sat there for a moment, looking out over the valley toward Veliko Tarnovo, soaking in the last of the sun.
Pro Tip: if youāre vegetarian like us, donāt miss the gyubek aubergine, so good š¤¤
If youāre ever in Bucharest, do yourself a favor and cross that border over to Bulgaria.

August 2025 was basically a part-time job of gathering documents. After nearly eight years of not wanting to do a single Schengen visa, I spent the month knee-deep in bank statements and embassy forms. It was all for a friendās wedding in Romania, which served as the starting point of my three-week European tour. Looking back, every bit of that paperwork was worth it the moment the wedding celebrations started - think non-stop dancing, and a level of Romanian hospitality that makes you go WOW! š
We started in Cluj, which has this incredible, artsy student vibe, but Brasov completely stole my heart. Itās the cutest mountain town with colorful streets and a cozy atmosphere. I was surprised by how vegan-friendly it is; I found the best plant-based treats in tiny cafes tucked away in the side alleys near the main square. If youāre visiting, skip the main tourist spots for food and wander those backstreets instead!
Of course, we had to do the āDraculaā pilgrimage to Bran Castle. The Carpathian Mountains are so moody and beautiful, but the highlight was finding the tiny secret staircase hidden inside the castle walls. A quick hack: donāt buy the generic souvenirs at the entrance. Walk five minutes further into the village to find local grandmas selling authentic handmade crafts.
We wrapped up in Bucharest, the āLittle Paris of the East.ā I loved the wild contrast of massive buildings sitting right next to tiny, ornate churches. We spent our last days in the Old Town eating Papanash (fried donuts) and soaking in the history.
Pro tip for 2026 travelers: Use the Bolt app for everything; itās way cheaper than taxis. Also, since Romania is now in Schengen at the embassy, book your visa appointments at least three months out!

I celebrated my birthday in one of the most popular places on my favorite continent.
After exploring so many different corners of Africa, Iāll be honest: Namibia felt much more commercial and touristy than my usual style of travel. Itās a different experience when a destination is this ādiscovered,ā but even with that shift in pace, the sheer diversity of the environment is staggering. From the coast to the canyon, itās a masterclass in natureās range.
We spent 10 days on a road trip staying at Gondwana Collection lodges across the country. One of the absolute highlights was the slow morningsā¦. being able to watch a magical sunrise over the desert directly from bed. There is nothing quite like seeing the sky turn from deep indigo to fiery orange while the world is still completely silent, all without having to leave the covers.
The shift in scenery every few hundred kilometers was incredible. From the Namib Desertās towering red dunes that look like the surface of Mars to Damaraland with its prehistoric terrain and ancient geological wonders to Etosha National Park where we watched lions basking and elephants drifting through the white āghostā dust.
Even though it was more structured than my typical adventures, the nights offered a sense of peace. The stargazing in the desert is world-class; the sky is so dense with stars it feels like you could reach out and touch them. Just silence, stardust, and the vastness of the Namibian horizon.
Namibia is a must for any travel bucket list, especially for those who crave wide-open spaces and the kind of landscapes that make you feel small in the best possible way! š¤

I stopped performing (online and offline) a long time ago - finding no need to document every second. Since I make a living outside this platform, I also liked the luxury of walking away whenever I wanted to. Iāve always shared content on my terms: no trends, barely any reels, and protecting our private space.
After 15 years of grad school, corporate life, and constant travel, this was the year I stepped away from many things to prioritize my well-being. It wasnāt an impulsive move, but I owed it to myself to build the life where I was in control.
With the space I cleared, I found room for things that actually mattered, like volunteering for marine conservation, causes I always cared about but never had the bandwidth for.
I published my first book about wild places, vulnerability, and what it means to be a married Indian woman who refuses to fit any mold. I shared things Iāve kept private for years because this year demanded honesty. Seeing it hit bestseller lists still feels surreal.
We went to Tibet, and I let it transform me. I understood what slowing down really means, moving through the world unhurried and fully present. Living well is the whole point.
Through it all, Iām grateful. For an amazing family, for an incredible partner who shows up every single day, and for good health that lets me live this life fully. These are my anchors.
The world still makes me angryā¦ I feel colder, more cynical, more detached & emotionally suppressed. But Iām learning I can hold that rage and still make room for quiet joys, even if I gate keep most of them. Maybe thatās the privilege of freedom: choosing how I show up, and only when I actually want to.
2025 was for choosing myself, again and again. Hereās to more of it in 2026 - softer landings, firmer boundaries & even less performing!

Itās easy to write North Macedonia off as odd or eccentric or an outlier. However, much like other Balkan gems like Albania or Serbia, I see its nonconformity as a mark of free-spiritedness. North Macedonia does its own thing. From a travellerās perspective, this makes it a wonderful place to visit.
Our trip took us from the streets of Skopje, where neo-neoclassical monuments almost outnumber people, to the sparkling Lake Ohrid, North Macedoniaās most attraction, the regionās highest settlement where time stands still, and contrast that with the bustling āEuropean-styleā city of Bitola in the countryās far south. Along the way, we visited visit Yugoslavian war monuments, abandoned churches, outstanding mosques, sprawling Old Bazaars where traders craft leather shoes and other homespun treasures, hammams that have been transformed into art galleries and wine bars, and Roman ruins as old as the hills.
There will be brutalist architecture, vintage cars, and plenty of affordable (veggie) food. So go on and add it to your 2026 list.

By now everyone should already know that I am a forest and safari girl at heart. After years of the best safaris in Africa, it was great to finally explore a teeny tiny part of the Indian wilderness. Instead of the wide-open Savannah, we were navigating the dense forests where every sound was amplified.
We didnāt actually spot a tiger or leopard this time, but we got so close. Thereās a certain kind of heartbeat-thumping excitement in just tracking the paw prints through the trees and feeling like theyāre watching you even if you canāt see them.
We stayed at the beautiful Mangifera Lodge, which made the experience even better. It was located in a beautiful, quiet pocket just outside the national park, I loved that there were just a few rooms at the lodge, which made the whole experience feel so private and exclusive. And honestly, the food was a massive highlight for us. Being a veggie family, we felt so looked after - their Tamil chef is a total star. Every meal felt like a home-cooked feast.
It was one of those trips that reminded me why I love being out in the wild. Definitely a core memory from this past summer ā„ļø

As someone who has always loved long-form storytelling, this book was inevitable. After years of pouring my heart into my blog and watching a beautiful community grow, I knew the next step had to be something more permanent - something that could live on a shelf, in a suitcase, or on someoneās bedside table.
The idea came to me last June in Gabon, while the hubs and I were hiking through a forest - a whole country and trail all to ourselves. I asked, āThis is so cool, should I write a book about it?ā and found myself quietly replying: Why not? š¤
This book isnāt about reinventing the wheel. I know there are others whoāve written travel memoirs, others whoāve gone far and wide. But this is *my* truth. My origin story. My messy, meaningful pursuit of freedom - as a married woman with a weak passport, a 9-5 job, and an unrelenting love for the worldās untold corners.
Itās for those of us who didnāt quit our jobs. Whoāve faced visa rejections, stereotypes, and fear. Itās for women from the global south, long left out of the travel narrative. For anyone whoās ever doubted if they were brave enough - and went anyway!
From Afghanistan to Gabon, Syria to Madagascar, Sao Tome to South Sudan - these stories are what I experienced. Not just about where I went, but who I became.
Iāve written this with all my heart - and very little experience as an āauthor.ā So if you find small imperfections, I hope youāll see them as the fingerprints of a first-time writer finding her voice!

For those of you who have been following me since the beginning, you will know that off beat travels is my happy place. This isnāt to say that I havenāt done the touristy places. It comes with the package.. but my favorite experiences have all been places where I didnāt see another traveler.
Growth begins at the edge of your comfort zone: this has been the mantra of my travel journey thus far. I like to think of all the places I go to poetically. I choose to go the places that the media has deemed ādangerousā, but itās in these places I FEEL the adrenaline. I feel alive, my heart beats faster. I am thinking, understanding the truth beyond the headlines. I am growing and reeling from reality checksš¤
This year was all about pushing boundaries.. and here are my two cents.
- most of the world is safe, donāt believe everything a whitewashed media dishes out. Experience reality for yourself.
- change the rhetoric, always. As a brown married woman, owner of a weak passport, I havenāt let society dictate what is acceptable. I chose to leave the chase for a better passport and moved to Dubai. I donāt jump on trends. I didnāt quit my job to travel. I am not tied at the hip with my husband. I am my own person.
- Paperwork with an Indian passport is tedious, especially the way I travel, but itās worth it; the best things in life have to be earned.
- Strangers are often unexpectedly generous and incredibly kind.
- Not everyone will get it, and thatās ok. They donāt need to, itās their problem, not yours.
- Always trust your instincts, and ignore the naysayers!
The true frontier of travel is just underneath the surface - find what makes your heart sing š«°š½
Be bold, be brave. Write your own story, always. I know I will. Hereās looking at you, 2024, may you be grander still āØ
