Humour is imperative. Clever, well-written and perfectly executed humour, that is.
However ceremonies must include contrast. Laughter is fantastic - it shows the couple that their guests are with them, but a change of tempo is essential.
And that's why I always look to move between lighthearted and heartfelt with every ceremony I prepare and present.
Light and shade is crucial.
Scrolling through Kylie and Sam's photo gallery, I stopped and studied these pictures of Kylie's parents. While they laughed a great deal during the ceremony, their love for the daughter also brought them to tears.
I'm so pleased that was on the tools that day. He reads the room so well, senses when I'm shifting gears and knows when to subtly point his lens towards the crowd.
