There’s a quiet but joyful shift happening in Berlin: people are looking up from their screens and back into books.
At METIS Books & Café in Prenzlauer Berg, literature, community and cultural exchange come together. We’re delighted to invite Berlin-based press & book influencers to experience this special place through a Silent Reading Evening.
Bring a book, enjoy 30 minutes of shared silence with a non-alcoholic spritz, and stay for relaxed conversation, focaccia & small bites — only if you feel like it.

We climbed up the beautiful 双子山, took our time, and enjoyed the views along the way.
Afterwards we stopped at W Café, which has a lovely little courtyard with grass, small hills, and plenty of space to play. You can build bridges, invent games, and just let kids roam freely. Emil is deep into his “Explorer” phase at the moment, so we turned it into a mini safari—searching for exotic animals in a Chinese park, all powered by imagination.
One of those places that feels calm, playful, and perfect for slow family days outdoors.

A place we’ll definitely come back to—and one I’m glad I wrote down so I can find this moment again later 🌿

We also visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where we heard there’s a two-meter-long “lizard” living somewhere… sadly, we never spotted it 😄
Another highlight was Gardens by the Bay — the iconic Supertrees and greenhouses are breathtaking, and the Cloud Forest absolutely blew me away. Walking through mist, waterfalls, and lush greenery felt almost unreal.
The cherry on top was dinner at ace La vi Singapore at Marina Bay Sands — incredible food paired with a stunning view over the city. Pure magic.
We loved Singapore so much that we’re seriously thinking about coming back in five years — maybe even for a whole year. Emil could attend Nexus International School Singapore, and I could imagine myself studying at an art school here.
Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it?

Where your pulse tells the story before your drink does: 酿青(襄阳路店).
At this TCM bar, they read your pulse and craft a cocktail tailored exactly to you — balance, energy, and flavor in a glass.
€20 well spent for tradition meeting innovation.
Berlin… you might want to take notes 😉

The restaurants interior reflects his spirit — timeless, artistic, and quietly elegant (perfect for this time of the year anyway...). It’s the kind of place where you linger over dessert and conversation. 🍽️

The orca show, dolphin show, and the mermaid show were absolutely beautiful and definitely the highlights of the park. Make sure to check the show times in advance, because they are very popular and you don’t want to miss them.
A great way to get an overview of the whole park is taking the gondola/cable car – it’s relaxing and gives you a nice view of the area.
One small tip: the food inside the park is nothing special, so it’s better to bring your own snacks or food if possible.
Overall, a wonderful experience and totally worth a visit if you’re in Shanghai!

We visited Jiaxing because it is the sister city of Halle (Germany) – thanks to my grandpa, who wished for us to come here. This partnership connects our hometown and Jiaxing through cultural exchange, education projects and many mutual visits over the years. ❤️
We were incredibly lucky: Long knew a local who showed us around and even introduced us to an artist. The result? Hand-painted portraits of all of us, which are now hanging in our apartment in Shanghai – such a special souvenir! 🎨
Of course, we had to try Zongzi, the famous sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves and shaped like triangles. 🍙 Jiaxing is known as one of the birthplaces of the Zongzi tradition, closely tied to rice culture and the Dragon Boat Festival.
This festival commemorates the ancient poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself out of loyalty to his country. For more than 2,000 years people have eaten Zongzi and held dragon boat races in his memory.
Another historical highlight:
🚩 The Communist Party of China was founded here in 1921 at South Lake (Nanhu). Today the area is an important cultural and memorial site.
A perfect day trip from Shanghai – highly recommended! ✨

Its name translates to something like “Free Crossing Bridge.” Back in the day, people had to pay tolls to cross the nearby wooden bridges — but Waibaidu was the first bridge in Shanghai that could be crossed completely for free.
What makes it especially fascinating today is its setting: right in front of it rise Shanghai’s iconic skyscrapers — the Oriental Pearl Tower and the futuristic skyline of Pudong. Standing on the bridge feels like looking into two worlds at once: the past in the form of its old gray steel structure in the foreground, and the future with the gleaming towers behind it.
That contrast is why so many people come here to take photos, especially at sunset or after dark when the city lights up. We actually found the bridge purely by chance while visiting a nearby Christmas market — and it turned out to be one of our favorite discoveries.

It tells the incredible story of “March of the Volunteers”, from its origins during the Anti-Japanese War to becoming China’s national anthem, and how this powerful song traveled across the world — from Hollywood films to radio broadcasts in Europe, the U.S., Southeast Asia and even performances by Paul Robeson.
What moved me most were the very human stories behind the anthem: people singing it in wartime, students trapped under earthquake ruins who sang it to find hope, overseas workers using it to prove their identity during an evacuation, and children in the most remote mountain villages raising the flag to its melody.
The museum shows how one song became a voice of courage, unity, and resilience for generations.
Truly inspiring — and highly recommended if you are in Shanghai.
