A man remembering the night his nephew died beside him.
A house abandoned after 14 members of one family were lost.
We say “never again.”
Again and again.
So what does that even mean anymore?
Kindia Region.
Moyamba Junction.
Ebola is back in the headlines.
And with it, these images.
Old photographs.
New articles.
Same stories.
Fear.
Loss.
Survival.
But for the people in these frames,
this was never “news.”
How can you move on?
So when we say “never again”…
who is that really for?

That’s the uncomfortable truth...
Because there are too many like it.
Too many stories.
Too much.
And yet, for someone in this frame,
this moment is everything.
Saint-Louis.
A boy flies a kite in front of a destroyed house.
Teenagers wash in the ruins.
Children play on what used to be homes.
The ocean keeps moving forward.
Walls disappear.
Lives adapt.
And slowly, the coastline rewrites itself.
We call it climate change.
For them, it’s… life changing.

They walk it. For days, for nights... Step after step.
Trojes.
Families from across continents move north
towards the United States.
That day, it rained.
Children soaked.
Parents holding plastic sheets above their heads.
Trying to create shelter out of nothing.
No certainty.
Policies are discussed far from here.
Decisions are made in rooms they will never enter.
But the consequences look like this.

But you stopped.
Why this image, and not the others?
What makes one place visible…
and another invisible?
Aguán Valley.
Here, land can get you killed.
Farmers disappear.
Voices are silenced.
Violence becomes a language.
At the Cooperativa Brisas del Aguán, people are
resisting a system shaped by inequality, power, and impunity.
Palm oil expands.
Pressure rises.
And justice rarely follows.

On this day it's customary to celebrate with children, to play and do fun things together. The things that bring children joy. That is lovely, and it truly matters.
But it's also important to draw us adults' attention to the literal meaning of this day: the protection of children. When our own children are safe and cared for, let us pause for a moment and think also of those children whose childhood is not protected.
Today, around half a billion children are growing up in conflict zones around the world. That is the highest number since the Second World War. In Sudan, over 5 million children have been driven from their homes, with roughly 5,000 more added every day. In Gaza, tens of thousands of children have been killed or maimed over the course of two years. In Ukraine, 2.2 million children will need humanitarian aid in 2026 because of the war. And in many so-called forgotten wars, children live every day in fear that no child should ever have to feel. Some children cannot go to school, some cannot sleep in their own homes, some do not know whether tomorrow will come.
As ordinary people, there isn't much we can do here, but we can support those who can, and who do. If you're able to, make a small donation today: or
Caring for our own children and noticing the world's children are not opposites, because a child's right to safety and to a future does not end at the border of a country or a nation.

A teenager plays with a wooden gun.
But is a gun ever just a toy?
In a place where weapons are banned,
they still live in memories.
Homes were looted.
Lives were broken.
Violence doesn’t disappear overnight.
What children see…
what they hold…
what they imagine…
can shape what comes next.
Where does play end? And something else begin?
Do you think children should play with toy guns?

It’s not.
It’s about understanding.
Light. People. Context. Timing, and how feelings reflect.
In Poland, I photographed Priyanka Chopra during her visit with UNICEF, meeting families displaced by the war in Ukraine. This was back in 2022.
Today, I thought of this moment.
There’s always a moment I look for, when everything reflects a feeling.
Sometimes less official, less expected. Just people, sitting together. Listening. Sharing.
Priyanka was fully there. Just present, kind, feeling and truly hearing.
And around us, saddest stories of loss…
But also something stronger.
Strength that doesn’t announce itself.
It just exists.
In the way people speak.
In the way they keep going.
I think that’s what stays with me the most about these moments. Thank you and

But some encounters stay longer than others.
Not because of what was said,
but because of what was felt.
Daresalam refugee camp.
Khadija Kaku fled violence in Diffa Region, like thousands of others escaping attacks by Boko Haram.
Along the road to Mainé Soroa, entire families built shelters from nothing.
That morning, Khadija borrowed a phone to call her father.
The network didn’t work.
Later, she cut onions in the shelter kitchen, preparing breakfast for her sister.
Life continues even here.

After spending several days with visiting children, schools, and families in Senegal, witnessing his genuine kindness and humility in every encounter, the official welcoming ceremony felt even more special.
He arrived in this beautiful style, wearing it with such effortless grace that I just had to capture that moment as it is- kind of different than the other days. Behind all the cameras and attention, he remained the same… grounded, patient, and full of light.
A reminder that greatness often speaks softly.

On her first visit to the African continent, her warm smile, caring presence, and attentive eyes made every encounter deeply human. From women’s shelters in Dakar to schools in Kolda and villages leading WASH initiatives, she listened with compassion, shared joy with children, and honored every story with humility.
Humbly sharing with you her generous heart shone through my lens.
