📍SAVE to plan your trip
Havasu Falls was probably the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, and the best backpacking trip of my life.
Rules have changed this year, so here’s what to know before you go!👇
✨Trail Details
- It is 8 miles to Supai Village and 2 additional miles to Havasu Falls and the campground.
- Mooney Falls is at the end of the campground. The hike to the bottom is VERY steep and sketchy with carved steps and chains
- Past Mooney Falls it is 2 miles to Beaver Falls. You have to do the chain section, a few other scrambles, river crossings and a ladder climb (the ladder is now metal to my understanding)
✨Havasupai Permit Info
- Permits release for early access on January 21st! Be logged in and ready at 8AM Arizona time. Regular access is February 1st at 8AM
- there is no longer a lottery or transfer board
- You must have your ID, a copy of your reservation, and proof that your account on the Havasupai Reservation site
- All reservations are $455 for one person for 3 nights. For early access there is an additional $40 fee.
- Plan on bringing out ALL your food and trash!
✨Other Things to Know
- Right outside the campground is a Fry Bread stand and it is sooo good! Bring a bit of cash, they have sweet and savory breads and drinks
- You can take the helicopter out of the canyon of they have room for $150-$200 per person, but it is not guaranteed.
- You can reserve a pack mule take your supplies in and out of the canyon. There is some debate about how well the mules are treated. We opted to pack in and out our own supplies.

This trail contains the largest concentration of fan palms in the world and is just a few minutes from Palm Springs! This is a popular hike and so is the nearby Andreas Canyon where you can dip your feet in the river!
This place is a literal oasis and I’ve never seen so many palm trees in my life! I loved wandering among them and hanging out by the pools of water
Go early to avoid the heat and bring 32 oz of water per person!

✨What is Firefall?
Firefall happens when the setting sun hits Horsetail Falls just right to make it appear “on fire”. This only happens during the last two weeks of February
✨What to know for 2026:
- There are NO reservations required this year to enter Yosemite during Firefall
- This means the park will be CROWDED! If you can visit on a weekday to avoid maximum crowds
- Check the park website for information on parking and closures.
- Get there early, and wait! Especially without the reservations I would plan to arrive really early this year. The Firefall doesn’t happen until close to sunset but parking fills early.
Last year we parked at 1:30 pm the first day and around noon the second day (both weekdays). You can walk or shuttle to other sites in the valley after parking.
- It’s a 1.5 mile to 3 mile walk each way from the parking lot (depending on where you park) to the viewing area.
- plan to visit at least 2 days! If the weather is cloudy the Firefall will not show
- Firefall itself only lasts around 20 minutes
- Pack out everything you bring in!!!!
✨Photo Tips:
- If you want a good camera photo, you need a telephoto lens. I took most of my photos on a 70-200 f/2.8. If you don’t have a long lens you can rent one! Mine was rented though (hosted)
- An ND filter and tripod will also let you get better photos so you can slow down the shutter speed, making the waterfall appear smoother
- Have your tripod and camera set up ready to go well in advance if you want “the shot”. If you’re picky about composition go early because the meadow becomes filled with tripods.
- On your phone, make sure to manually decrease the exposure to make the Firefall pop!

- gloves, hat, and warm clothes
- blanket
- backpack or wagon

The Redwoods are a beautiful and underrated National Park! The entire park is huge because it’s made up of several state parks put together, but all of the areas recommended below are fairly close together and can be visited in one day!
📍Tall Trees Grove
- 3.6 miles OR 4.5 miles depending on your route
- moderate
- you need a reservation (all day or half day) due to limited parking but it was easy to get online
- the gate code will be sent to you the day before your hike
📍Lady Bird Johnson Grove
- 1.4 miles
- easy
- my favorite trail in the park!
📍Newton B Drury Scenic Drive
- stop at the visitors center and Big Tree, a 1500 year old redwood!
- look out for elk!
📍Fern Canyon
- 1 mile
- easy
- the road to the trailhead is windy and narrow
- 1 mile from the trailhead is a washed out section of road. We had no problem in a 4 runner but low clearance vehicles may need to park and walk the rest of the way
- permits required May 15- September 15
- bring sandals or crocs for stream crossing
✨ When to Go:
- least crowds in Fall through Spring, but warmest in Summer
- the park and most trails are open year round!

- I graduated as a chemical engineer and quickly realized it wasn’t the right path🎓

- I’ve been to 24 National Parks. My favorites are Katmai, Rainier, and Glacier 🏔️
- Current big travel goals are the W Trek in Peru, Annapurna in Nepal, Argentina, and New Zealand

- I just moved to the PNW and don’t know anyone, can we go hiking?- I actually colead women group hikes as a ambassador! The sign ups drop at the beginning of the month, to help more women get outside and make friendships!

I can’t believe it’s almost been 4 years since we took a chance and moved to Oregon after visiting only once. But now my weekends (and some weekdays) are spent exploring these mountains and waterfalls and I love them so much.
Before moving I’d only been hiking a handful of times, so here’s your reminder that it’s never to late to start, and if you don’t have anyone to go with, you can go alone with proper precautions!

- kayak to a waterfall
- hike to a WWII bunker
- paddle board in the cove

The best part for me was how much wildlife we saw! We saw a black bear near the waterfall, kayaked among the sea otters, and saw river otters running around in the morning! It’s also not uncommon for seals, sea lions, and orcas to come up into the cove🦦
