Our lives have a shared rhythm and the new year is conventionally a time to take stock of how our lives are going. The conclusion of the previous year and the beginning of a new year also make the length of the year a good unit to assess various facets of our lives.
John Stuart Mill, an English philosopher and political economist, said that it’s better to hone the higher human level of reasoning and rationality and often be dissatisfied than to be a blissful fool. I concur that it’s certainly more constructive to reflect on the trajectories of our lives and identify things to work on than to be ignorant, unmindful and oblivious but happy.
Given today’s “flexing” culture, many people tend to count only quantifiable and remarkable experiences, rather than experiences that could have been just as meaningful, valuable and revitalizing but do not fit a narrative because they are relatively trivial and indistinguishable. To state some examples; sharing lots of laughters with loved ones, enjoying a gorgeous sunset that graffitied brilliant hues of gold, pink and tangerine across the sky, or having intimate dinners while taking in the breathtaking vision of the resplendent night decorated with luminous stars.
While mensurable experiences that make a difference matter most, may we remember to be grateful for all the less noteworthy but worthwhile experiences that rejuvenate the soul.
The New Year is upon us once again, and the pen is in our hands to write a beautiful story for ourselves. May we live up to the promises we have made and create wonderful things for us and our loved ones. May we aim as high as the skyscrapers in our respective ambitions. May we achieve all that we set out to achieve. And lest we forget, may we remember that we all have a responsibility to defend living beings who can’t defend themselves (animals & children etc). In bettering ourselves in every aspect, let’s not forget to include this in our resolutions, quoting Goran Persson, “let our New Year’s resolution be this: we will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word.” 🌸

Gotta love the enchanting, delightful bursts of vibrant pink flowers adorning the restaurant, intensified and made more striking by the rays of the sun on a warm afternoon, providing temporary respite from an otherwise hectic day. The food was good too, decadent, and in notably generous portions.
