Architectures of Relief - AlUla (2025), acrylic and mixed pigments on canvas, 120 × 170 cm (H x W) was created during Vlad Pocol’s stay in AlUla. The work is part of the Architectures of Relief project, which asks: what if architecture itself became part of a country’s topography? Developed from real topographic data, digitally merged with architectural forms and translated by hand into painting, the work moves from data to gesture, from structure to intuition, toward an emotional and spiritual topography rather than a documentary image. In AlUla, relief operates as absorption: contemporary architecture recedes into geology, as if the mountain itself had learned to build.
Vlad Pocol (b. 1992, Switzerland) is a Swiss multidisciplinary contemporary artist of Romanian political exile descent and Levantine heritage, currently based between Riyadh and Paris. His practice explores transformation as both a material and emotional process, tracing how movement, displacement, and shifting states of being shape identity, memory, and belonging. Working across painting, installation, and sculptural forms, he constructs layered visual terrains driven by repetition, density, and material flow, where accumulation, erosion, and reconfiguration become legible through gesture and matter. His work has been presented across the Middle East, Europe, and the United States, including his 2024 solo exhibition From Roots to Vision. A Migration. in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This presentation explores the dialogue between materiality and spirit, transformation and elevation, themes that have shaped my recent work and the evolution of my practice.
Grateful to be the second artist featured in the fourth edition of Curated at One, a program celebrating contemporary creation within spaces of exceptional architecture and cultural resonance.

The exhibition remains open to the public until the end of October at The Plaza, One Za’abeel, Dubai.
Running from October 10 to 31, 2025, the exhibition features a curated selection of textural and sculptural paintings exploring themes of identity, migration and transformation.
Known for his layered works that merge painting and sculpture, Vlad Pocol draws on a personal journey shaped by geographical and emotional displacement. Each gesture within his process becomes an act of migration, a movement between memory and becoming, where intuition traces paths of transformation.
This marks the artist’s first presentation in the UAE, following exhibitions across Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
Set within The Plaza, One Za’abeel, where art and architecture converge, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the continuous dialogue between heritage and elevation.
