On the weekend of 27–28 June 2026, we will proudly celebrate the 100th edition of the Damme–Bruges swim – a sporting and historic event that is unrivalled

What makes this swim so special? Not only is it Europe’s oldest organised swimming competition – first held in 1910 – it is also one of the few that is truly swum from city to city.
Participants cover the route in the Damse Vaart, from charming Damme to the heart of historic Bruges.

Over the years, the swim crossing has seen a few interruptions. Yet this tradition has returned time and again, sustained by the passion of swimmers, volunteers and spectators.
The 100th edition is now a reality and will be celebrated in a fitting manner.
