Rene Matić was born in Peterborough, England in 1997, and they completed a BA in Fine Art at Central St Martins, London in 2020. Matić works predominantly in photography but also explores film, sculpture, textile, sound, and writing. Their work delves into themes like pleasure, love, and the constructed self through the lens of ‘rudeness’, celebrating interruption and in-betweenness.
Matić is nominated for ‘As Opposed to the Truth’ at CCA Berlin (8 Nov 2024 – 15 Feb 2025). Their first institutional solo exhibition in Germany features new photographs, installations, and a sound piece. ‘Restoration’ (2022-ongoing) showcases antique Black dolls, reflecting on hurt, abandonment, and care. I’m thrilled to share my reflections on the experience in an essay featured in the Museum Tinguely’s new catalogue, ‘Fresh Window: The Art of Display and Display of Art’.
The publication accompanies the group exhibition, which shares the title and explores the fascinating connections between the histories of art and shop window displays.
The exhibition opened on Tuesday night with a great artist list and runs until May 2025. The catalogue is available in the bookshop or online. Published by VfmK Verlag für moderne Kunst.

Jamie Fitzpatrick’s forthcoming exhibition ‘How Can We Hope to Keep Our Rivers Clean if All the Kids ‘Round Here are Wearing Liverpool Shirts’ opens at St Chads, London, UK, in Autumn 2024. Fitzpatrick is also included in the group show ‘Pop Life’ at City Art Centre, Edinburgh, UK, opening in November 2024, and he will commence a Hospitalfield Interdisciplinary residency later this year.
Jamie Fitzpatrick is a British artist whose practice deals with the rhetoric of image making, the relevance of the figure and how objects and totemic gestures such as flags, statues or plinths are used within the work to impose forms of power and control. His work was first shown by VITRINE in 2016, soon after he graduated from the RCA London.
VITRINE’s programme has been focused on artists working in installation and sculpture, many whom address contemporary socio-political issues. We have showcased practices that flourish site-responsively, in alternative environments to the traditional white cube.

Kara Chin is included in the exhibition ‘SCI-FI: Mythologies Transformed’ at Science Gallery Melbourne, AU, August 2024 - March 2025. Chin presents her animation ‘Awakening Ceremony’ (2021), which was previously shown in the exhibition ‘New Eden: Science Fiction Mythologies Transformed’ at ArtScience Museum, Singapore, earlier this year.
Kara Chin is a British-Singaporean artist working across animation, ceramics, and installation. Her work inquires into the implications of fast evolving technologies, such as its ethical conundrums and potential consequences of developing robotics and artificial intelligence within the present and future. Chin’s practice combines transhumanist and nonhuman perspectives into fictional narratives to often humorously suggest ways new technologies assimilate into the everyday working and domestic environments.
VITRINE’s programme has been focused on artistic experimentation and emerging interdisciplinary practices. For over a decade, we have established a reputation as a selector and nurturer of new international talent, developing artists’ careers and supporting the evolution of their ideas.

Tim Etchells is a pioneering British artist, writer and performance maker whose interdisciplinary practice is concerned with tropes of performativity, liveness and presence. He has been represented by VITRINE since 2015, producing four solo shows across all spaces as well as art fair presentations and outdoor commissions.
Binaries of exposure and concealment, construction and deconstruction, appearance and disappearance are explored in a body of work that takes multiple forms including performance, sculpture, drawing, video and installation, presented in multiple contexts, from galleries to public sites and found spaces. Etchells is concurrently Artistic Director of Forced Entertainment, a multi-award-winning, globally renowned, Sheffield-based theatre company.
To celebrate 40 years of Forced Entertainment in 2024, a new show ‘Signal to Noise’ is presented alongside other works at venues in London, including a UK premiere in October at Southbank Centre, London.
VITRINE’s programme has been focused on interdisciplinary approaches in a variety of media and working with many artists who have performance- and language-based practices. We have showcased works that flourish site-responsively, in alternative environments to the traditional white cube, and have delivered private and public outdoor sculpture commissions internationally.

Rudy Loewe is included in the Toronto Biennial, September-December 2024, curated by Dominique Fontaine and Miguel A. Lopez. They will present a new work titled ‘Spaces of Return’ created during a recent residency in Toronto and ‘Anansi #3’ from their recent solo presentation with VITRINE at Independent 2024, New York, US.
Loewe is also exhibiting in the exhibition ‘Conversations’ at Walker Art Museum, Liverpool, UK, October 2024 until March 2025, and has further major projects to be announced shortly.
Rudy Loewe uses painting, drawing, textiles and sculpture as a method to visualise Black histories and social politics. Their practice explores what has become truth in the collective memory by looking at the past whilst envisaging futures that centre Black queer and trans experience.
Loewe’s practice is highly informed by their ongoing visual examination of The National Archives, researched during their PhD. Loewe’s research interrogates and exposes Britain’s role in suppressing Black Power movements in the English-speaking Caribbean during the 1960s and 70s, as presented in their solo exhibition ‘A Significant Threat’ at VITRINE Fitzrovia, in 2023.

Ashfika Rahman is a finalist for the Future Generation Art Prize 2024, supported by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, with an exhibition taking place in August at PinchukArtCentre, Kyiv, UA. She will be in the Busan Biennale, titled ‘Seeing in the Dark’, August - October 2024, and in September will take her place as a resident at the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam, NL, for their 2024-2025 programme.
Bangladesh artist and activist Rahman’s practice originates from photography, a medium that she utilises to explore and shed light on complex systemic social issues, predominantly in her homeland. Evolving beyond documentation, she activates collaborations within specifically chosen communities to raise awareness about alarming threats on humanity.

Asides and illustrations is a set of actions and readings in which two performers, referred to simply as “the writers”, move through the exhibition highlighting connections, disconnections and the malleability of language. These subtle interventions reanimate the works which form the exhibition "Little Sound". The Writers bring the fabric and context of the gallery into sharper focus and playfully experiment with ideas of time, value, the inside and the outside.
Asides and Illustrations was performed by Charlie Godet Thomas and Kennedy Jopson and was
developed by Charlie Godet Thomas both as a part of his solo presentation "Little Sound" at Vitrine, Fitzrovia and as a means of mark the closing of Vitrine Gallery.

Cecilia Fiona will present the exhibition 'Ghost Flower Ritual' at Copenhagen Contemporary in April 2025, in collaboration with musician Sophie Søs Meyer, and following their first collaboration for Fiona’s performance ‘Pools of prayers (All intertwined)’ in her solo exhibition 'Weaving time, spinning spine' at VITRINE Fitzrovia in January 2024.
Building upon her phantasmagorical compositions explored through her unique rabbit skin glue and pigments paintings on canvas, Fiona's work has continued to experiment with different mediums, incorporating performance into her solo exhibitions with more focus.
Fiona's performance ‘Pools of prayers (All intertwined)’ is also being presented this month in the exhibition 'A Poem Lovely as a Tree', at Sixi Museum, Nanjing, CN. And in December 2024, Fiona is selected for the LABVERDE Speculative Ecologies residency in the Amazon in Brazil, with guest curator Chus Martinez.
VITRINE's programme has been focused on interdisciplinary approaches in a variety of media, concentrating on artists working in installation, sculpture and performance, many of whom have developed the live aspect of their practice in collaboration with our work together.
