This hallway was one of the most important rooms to get right as we wanted to enter the home and have a wow factor every time we enter.
During the renovation we took out EVERYTHING, the internal walls, floor and plaster. We had hoped we had a beautiful Minton Victorian floor underneath the lino but unfortunately this wasn't the case, it was red quarry tiles that were cracked and had dropped in places.
We decided to flick these up carefully and re-use them. We scoured the internet for black and ivory coloured quarry tiles and came across a batch of them from eBay.
We insulated, installed underfloor heating pipes and created our take on the Minton style flooring.

This was one of the biggest jobs we had to take on in the house.. ⚒️🏠
When we bought the house we had a small, cold and damp loft space that was accessible via a very steep staircase with a very dark storage area on the other side of the gable end.
From the very start we knew we wanted to create a master bedroom suite up here as we have amazing views of the sea from up here. So the plan was to create a large master bedroom with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. To achieve this we needed to gain more headroom so we made the decision to literally stop every out including the floor joists. This allowed up to order new easy joists to replace and lowered the floor by half a meter.
We insulated the ceilings, installed a new staircase and put in 5 large velux windows in the roof.
