There is something slightly cheeky about these two.

Besides all the many things, motherhood is also monkey business.
Playfulness is one of my favourite parts.

The made up games and silliness.

The untameable belly laughs. The romping and stomping.

As Max, the king of all wild things, says:
„Let the wild rumpus start!“

‘I have been terrified every moment of my life, and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.’ – Georgia O’Keeffe

Fear is a good indicator. It’s a marker we’re stepping into something new and / or meaningful.

For me I take it as a sign that it’s time to step up.

My comfort zone is not where my growth happens.

Maybe this is your sign to choose to feel the fear and do it anyway.

Is there something you have done lately despite feeling fear? Maybe something you want to do and you don’t dare to yet?

If you dare, share it in the comments 😉
I’ll start.
Another little studio update ✨

One painting is leaving for its new home in Copenhagen this week. Finishing a commission always comes with this strange mix of attachment and wanting the piece to go into the world.

A special sized and custom made, hand embellished fine art print is leaving the studio.

I’ve returned to a project dear to my heart (and my son’s). Determined to finish the proposal this month - a children’s book I started writing and illustrating when my son was 2 and a half.

A new commission work is beginning.

A beautiful collaboration with amazing women is quietly taking shape in the background.

Starting to plan my next paper art drop for you.

Still learning how to hold different worlds at once — motherhood, painting, writing, ideas all over the place, just like toys all over the place, social media, slowness, kindergarten viruses, exhaustion, resting, healing and enjoying the ride.

Sharing it in this format with you is growing on me.
I might do that once every month now.

I hope your week is going well.

Thank you for being here.

Love

De Galerie Rotterdam is currently presenting the work of Victoria Ledig.

Victoria Ledig's practice focuses on the female body as both a structural and emotional form, inspired by the universal female experience and art historical representations.

By using archetypal motifs such as the classical female nude and the Madonna, Victoria reinterprets these forms through a contemporary painterly visual language. Her figures are fragmented and built up in layers, allowing emotion and physical presence to be expressed through the body rather than through narrative representation.

On view in Rotterdam until 22 May.

This moment of connection.

When being held and holding becomes one thing.

Figures merging into one another.
In a space between unity and individuality.

We become One.

Happy end of the week everyone 🌞
A woman who does not ask.
Her presence commands.

Who naturally takes up space.
Her body held with certainty and ease.

How does it feel to be sitting in your power?
Grounded, yet open. Being seen.

How does it feel when you inhibit your body fully?

Somewhere between woman, matriarch, icon and goddess.

Some subjects return again and again in art history.

The relationship between mother and child has been painted and reimagined for centuries — from sacred icons to intimate domestic scenes. What changes over time is the lens through which we see it. The stories being shown and told. And by whom.

It fascinates me that my painting practice sits within a centuries old lineage.
I’m interested in that closeness, weight and tenderness, the symbolism. The many layers and emotions involved, the narratives created.

Interested in giving mother and child space to take up. A private scene becomes public, and is always political.

I’m interested in making these quiet moments visible — leaning in, sharing moments and emotions, an unspoken language between bodies that know each other deeply. How they hold on to each other, each in their own urgency. How they exist together.
How they are shown and seen.

It’s my reflection and exploration on intimacy and human attachment.

These pieces are part of an ongoing conversation.
And I’m not done exploring it yet.

Every commission starts with a story.
Yours.

Here are a few pieces that grew out of conversations about sisterhood, motherhood, connection, and the feeling someone longed for in their home.

If you’ve been imagining a painting that feels deeply yours, I’d love to create it with you.

Love,
V ✨
Hi, I’m Victoria — and here’s a round of things about me behind the paintings.

I paint women for women. Because it matters which stories are being told by whom.
My work grows in slow, quiet layers — often while a cat supervises from the sidelines.

I love painting on canvases at least my size, it’s almost like a direct translation from my own body and its movement and proportions.

I live in Berlin, and it gets grey here for half of the year - my heart constantly dreams of sunshine. The soft kind from Italy or the golden kind I imagine in LA.

I’m obsessed with colour on canvas, but not so much on myself.
To keep daily decisions simple, I dress almost like a uniform, eat the same breakfast and stick to the same routines every morning. It frees up a little bit of mental space for creativity (and for the unpredictability of motherhood).

Painting is one part of my job:
sometimes there’s also the website, the fine art prints, the editing, the emails, the logistics, the ideas, the proposals, the research, the balancing. And like many women of my generation, I’m raising a child while healing my own inner one.

I hope you had a good week and I’m wishing you a peaceful weekend ahead.

Love,
V
