We love to freewheel the internet, going into a vortex, clicking all the items we like. Our favourite way to discover mostly young designers. Not so young in this case as QUETSCHE by Parisian-based Li Yang, has been rolling out collections since 2016.
And there was just something that attracted us to this spring 2018 bomberjacket. One the front, a sheer pink camisole is crushed between two layers.
Instantly it brought us to the Margiela spring 1994 collection where a grey dress was crushed and worn under a sheer camisole. (Image 2 and 3) this was a re-edition of spring 1990 where a lighter, most likely white, dress was given the same treatment. Resulting in one of the most reblogged images there is (1st image)
In the end, not surprising as Yang studied at the Maison under the Margiela Staff after graduating l'Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. There is always a tell.

The cult brand with the iconic red stitched cross in the back, marked themselves by their unconventional approach to fashion: drawing with chalk and sand, using horse saddles as patterns, decorating runways and their stores with military hospital paraphernalia.
Also in their choice of materials A.F. Vandevorst has been an outlier. Opting for simple but unconventional materials, but so well hidden due to their impeccable tailoring and finishes, these avant garde materials went simply overlooked. Therefor we're highlighting those collections aside from presenting some of the pieces in our rental archive too, where their material usage is even more clear.

These Maison Margiela tabi loafers have handprints on each side, done by a Staff member that dipped their hands in white paint and pressed them on the shoes. Giving a subtle difference in shine and slight three-dimensional texture too.
The tabis are a size 38, unworn condition, and come with their original box and shower caps. We estimate them to be from spring 2022 (exact season will be determined later)

The story revolved around women gathering at home, before taking the train to go to a Jazz club. Accompanied by conversations, followed by a musical performance.
The fall 2004 collection was mostly marked by trompe-l'oeil prints of furnishing fabrics such as Chesterfield couches and Thonet chairs, as well as fabric tags attached to set furniture, but blown out of proportion. Other themse were deconstructed dresses and knitwear, glittery wrinkled skirts and large ostrich boleros.
A brown bandeau top had stretched out sides, creating a curved hemline. We now have the black maxi dress version of this online. The knit top was worn underneath a gold chain spelling the words 'real leather' while at the end, the same top in real black leather appeared. Another quirky wink done by Martin.
Our latest fall 2004 Margiela dress was not shown in the video, aside from the brown top version. The dress has a navel-length inner bandeau to provide extra support and prevent slippage, together with a sturdy elastic inserted band anover the bust. The dress flares out with and almost bubble shaped side, sadly not visible on the mannequin due to its non-existen hips. The curved hemline is finished by a wide knit ribbed trim, highlighting its knitwear properties.
