New Malaysian BBQ Pork stall

Found a new Malaysian BBQ pork stall inside Admiralty Centre food court (Richmond).

They’ve got a full spread of rice, noodle, small bites, and Malaysian desserts.
My favourite was the BBQ pork (half fatty, half lean) good balance and satisfying portions.

Also enjoyed the roasted chicken rice, wonton mee, mee goreng, and their drinks lineup.

☕️ Must-try: Penang black coffee with grass jelly, super nostalgic Malaysian-style flavour.
🍮 Desserts like cendol, kuih, mango sticky rice if you want to end on a sweet note.

📍 Admiralty Centre, Richmond
🕥 Open 10:30am–4:30pm
❌ Closed Tuesdays

Food court gems like this are why Richmond never misses.

Exploring a new wagyu spot 🥩

Wagyu bowls in Vancouver usually come with a premium price tag, so seeing these land in the $27–35 range definitely caught my attention.

Tried the seared Sendai Wagyu bowl, Sendai Wagyu lime shabu udon, oniku mentaiko temaki, and oniku ikura maki.

The wagyu really stood out here, rich, clean flavour with a tender bite and great texture. Nothing heavy or overwhelming, just good quality beef done right.

Each bowl comes with house-pickled vegetables and a bowl of aka dashi miso soup, which balances everything nicely.

Worth checking out if you enjoy wagyu without the excess.

New dumpling spot🥟

Just checked out Bun & Dumpling, a newly opened dumpling spot right across from King Edward SkyTrain Station.

The menu is tight and focused, pan-fried dumplings, xiao long bao, and steamed buns.
I tried the shrimp & pork dumplings ($10.99 for 6) and the pan-fried pork buns ($11.99 for 6). Both were juicy, flavourful, and well-priced.

I was hoping to try the chocolate xiao long bao, but they were sold out this time 👀
Worth noting: no indoor seating, it’s a grab-and-go counter setup.

Simple menu, reasonably set prices, and a solid new dumpling option in the neighbourhood.

Michelin Star Omakase

Recently experienced the omakase dinner at Okeya Kyujiro, a $325 pp dining journey featuring 25+ meticulously crafted courses.

At the heart of the experience is the ingredient quality. Many components are sourced directly from Japan, including seasonal seafood, premium uni, and carefully selected proteins, all prepared using traditional Japanese techniques that highlight purity, balance, and restraint rather than excess.

This is more than just a meal, it’s a theatrical omakase where cuisine and performance move in sync. Each course is part of a choreographed sequence, engaging all five senses through flavor, presentation, sound, and timing.

Beyond the food, the experience reflects a deep respect for Japanese culture from handcrafted tableware and authentic culinary tools to the precise, intentional service throughout the evening.

Originally founded in Montreal and now with locations in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Kyoto, Okeya Kyujiro continues to redefine immersive fine dining.

New Restaurant alert

Just came across this new stone pot rice spot in Burnaby and had to share 🍚👀

recently opened its first Canadian location, bringing sizzling stone pot rice bowls with bold, comforting flavours to the area.

I went with the signature stone pot rice bowl with two selections ($20.95), beef brisket and char siu, plus extra veggies (+$1.50) and also tried the Guizhou-style pickled vegetable beef pot ($23.95), which had that tangy, savoury comfort-food kick.

The staff were super friendly, portions felt generous for the value, and overall it’s a very approachable comfort-food spot. Personally, I’d love the stone pot bowls to come out even hotter and sizzling. The dishes are available with unlimited rice.

This feels like the kind of place you save for casual lunch dates, easy dinners, or comfort food nights when you want something different without overthinking it.

U Town Hot Pot

I visited recently opened DIY hot pot with a bright, modern interior, this malatang spot lets you customize your bowl from start to finish as expected

You choose your ingredients first, then pick from a variety of broths, and the kitchen cooks everything for you. From veggies and meats to noodles and toppings, every pot ends up a little different, which makes it easy to tailor to your own preferences.

Like other DIY hot pot spots, pricing is based on weight, so the final cost depends on what and how much you choose. Easy, interactive, and especially comforting on colder days.

Save room for this Mexican brunch. 🇲🇽✨

From a trio de tacos: carnitas, cochinita pibil, and al pastor to huevos motuleños layered with beans, plantain chips, and sunny-side eggs, and ending strong with the signature chocoflan — dense chocolate cake, flan, cajeta, and ice cream.

Michelin-recommended, Ophelia delivers an elevated Mexican brunch that balances comfort, tradition, and serious flavour. Don’t forget the bone marrow!

A Thai night in Vancouver

We ordered a selection of dishes that come up often in reviews and shared everything at the table.

The rib eye boat noodle pot works well for colder days and is easy to share, while the crispy soft shell crab karee and Thai royal leaf wraps add variety.

Finished with must order mango sticky rice.
Overall, a comfortable and spacious cozy spot to try a few different dishes and take your time with the meal.

New Sot Bap

everything starts with intention especially the rice.

Tried a selection of their newer dishes and signatures, and the common thread was clarity, balance, and restraint done right.

🍚 Flying Fish Roe Sot Bap

Warm, fragrant rice topped with flying fish roe, seaweed, pickled radish, and soft scrambled egg, subtle, savory, and quietly comforting.

🥩 Steak Sot Bap

Rich but composed. Tender beef, crisp bread crumbs, and just enough depth to let the rice stay front and centre.

🦐 Seafood Soondubu

Clean, warming, and well-balanced, comforting without being heavy, with a gentle seafood sweetness throughout.

🥘 Kalbi Jjim

Slow-braised, deeply flavorful, and refined, familiar comfort with a polished touch.

🐟 Spicy Salmon Salad

Bright, fresh, and thoughtfully seasoned. A lighter dish that still holds its own.

Keumsan’s cooking isn’t about excess, it’s about fundamentals done with care.

Simply different. Built on the basics.
