When we bought this farmhouse we always knew we were going to extend it or build on top of the existing single storey extension.
It didn’t take long to figure out that the existing single storey extension on the back was not structurally sound enough to take a second floor, and to be honest, it was poorly built and riddled with problems. That made the decision for us - we knocked the whole back of the house down, and rebuilt it!
We will be adding an oak porch to the new front (side) door (in the corner where the brick work is darker), as that will be the new main entrance. And of course we will be re growing the grass and landscaping outside and the driveway again to bring back its charm.
We’re so pleased with the incredible work of P Horsley Building Contractors and his team. They worked tirelessly building this project for so many months and overcame any set backs thrown at them - thank you 👏🏻

I have huge respect for anyone that takes one on. 2025 has been challenging in every sense. Living through a renovation is tough at the best of times (think no heating, water or electricity in the middle of winter, no kitchen or washer etc for a year type of vibes, the list goes on…), but the personal trauma we’ve had on top of that made this year the most difficult yet.
But when I reflect on our house journey over the year, I feel incredibly proud. Proud of how much we’ve achieved, the skills we’ve learned, and the resilience it’s taken to keep going when life got a bit rubbish.
I am also so grateful for the help we’ve had from our families, I’m sure they have better things to be doing but they’ve been there all the way and passing on their expertise!
If I included everything we’ve done, this reel would be weeks long 😂 But through the hard graft, the tears, the personal pain, there have been glimmers of joy that remind us why we took on this project, and that there is light at the end of this seemingly never-ending tunnel.
Here’s to hoping 2026 brings a little more ease… and finally some after photos ✨

As we approach our second-fix electrics, we started hunting for the right fixtures and were shocked at how quickly the costs add up. We knew we wanted antique brass - something timeless, well-priced, and pretty!
We ended up choosing the Eurolite concealed antique brass switches and sockets from UK Electrical Supplies. They’ve just arrived and I’m so pleased with them, I can’t wait to see them installed!

We hope it will reduce damp, preserve the bricks, and overall it looks much better than before! What do you think? I will share some stills at some point for a better look.
Whilst the pointing itself was a team effort from me and Joe, I have to hand it to him that he definitely got the short straw having to angle grind out all the cement between every single brick. It’s a horrible horrible messy job. Not once did he complain, but just cracked on, what a husband 🫶🏼

Despite having half a house and no kitchen (other than a camping stove and a cold water sink through the window), I really wanted to give it a go growing our own fruit and veg as soon as we moved in.
I’m a complete novice so thought I would just see what happens and there was nothing to lose if nothing took off! But over the months, after a lot of watering, everything went wild! I’ve loved watching everything grow from the beginning, to being made into meals and sharing any excess fruit/veggies with family and neighbours.
Now I’ve got more of an idea of what I’d like to grow more and less of, I can’t wait to give it another go for next year. It’s been a welcomed distraction from the renovation work at times.
