This year, however, I am not celebrating my birthday, as we are observing the beginning of Muharram-ul-Haram, one of the most sacred months in our faith. It marks the commencement of the journey of sacrifice, patience, and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.), whose legacy continues to inspire humanity with the values of truth, justice, and dignity.

I still vividly remember the affectionate words of Ustad Bismillah Khan Sahib when I had the honor of performing before him. He graciously said that I reminded him of a young Ustad Salamat Ali Khan Sahib. Those words remain one of the greatest honors and achievements of my life — a recognition far more valuable than any degree or title.
Perhaps that is why I have never considered myself an “Ustad.” Whatever respect and love I receive today is a blessing from people who appreciate my craft and from the prayers and guidance of legends such as Ustad Salamat Ali Khan Sahib, Ustad Bismillah Khan Sahib, and many others who illuminated the path before us.
Those were times when music was not divided by politics or religion. I have always believed that music rises above all boundaries. It is one of the purest forces capable of creating harmony, understanding, and love among people.
I came across this beautiful memory today and couldn’t resist sharing it with all of you.
