最終種目の1500mを走り終えた後、恩師の岡田先生からいただいた
「すごいよ。40歳まで行くぞ」
という言葉。
その一言を胸に、この4年間。十種競技を続けてくることができました。
どんな逆境に立たされても、常に自分の進む道を信じて伴走してくださり、前向きな言葉と常識にとらわれない唯一無二の思考で、私を何度も成長させてくださいました。今振り返るとここまで競技を続け、挑戦し続けられたのは岡田先生の存在があったからこそだと改めて感じています。
大学では指導者でありながら現役選手でもあるという立場で、学生たちには戸惑わせてしまうこともあったと思います。
ただ、私が伝えたかったことはシンプルです。
才能や環境の差はあっても、夢や目標に向かって本気で積み重ねた時間は決して裏切らないということ。
思い通りにいかない日が続いても、自分で決めた道から目を逸らさず、一歩ずつ前へ進み続ける。その姿勢こそが人を成長させ、やがて想像もしなかった景色へ連れていってくれます。
結果だけが価値ではありません。目標に向かって挑戦し続けた日々そのものが、その人の人生を豊かにしてくれると私は競技人生を通して学びました。
私の姿が少しでも、何かに本気で挑戦する勇気や、自分を信じ続ける力として学生たちの心に残ってくれたなら、選手として走り続けた意味があったと思います。

ここまで十分すぎるほど競技と向き合い、十種競技という競技の魅力や厳しさ、楽しさを存分に味わうことができました。多くの仲間や支えてくださった方々のおかげで競技を続けることができ、本当に充実した、そして最高に楽しい十種競技人生でした。
「引退」という言葉はあまり好きではありません。今回の決断は、すべてを終わらせるためのものでも、人生の締めくくりでもありません。
これからも自分らしく、新たな挑戦を楽しみながら、変わらないスタイルで前へ進んでいきたいと思います。
これまで応援し、支えてくださった皆さまに心から感謝申し上げます。本当にありがとうございました。
