After returning to the classroom as a non-traditional student, #UNLVGrad Glenda Ordonez is graduating with her Master of Hospitality Administration and was selected as one of UNLV's commencement speakers this spring. She describes this as an honor that reflects her belief that it’s never too late to pursue new goals and rediscover your voice.

First impression: “My first impression of UNLV was how diverse, welcoming, and full of opportunity it felt. As a returning graduate student balancing work, family, and academics, I initially felt nervous about stepping back into the classroom after many years. But over time, UNLV became a place where I rediscovered confidence, purpose, and a deeper passion for learning.”

Favorite memory: “One of my most meaningful experiences at UNLV has been being selected as a Graduate Commencement Speaker. With the ceremony taking place on May 15, it will be both an exciting and deeply meaningful moment for me. This opportunity represents not only academic achievement but also perseverance, growth, and the journey of returning to graduate school later in life while balancing work, family, and personal responsibilities. It serves as a reminder that growth and new beginnings are possible at any stage of life.”

What she’ll miss most about UNLV: “I will miss the sense of growth, connection, and shared purpose that comes from being part of a diverse learning community. UNLV challenged me academically, but it also reminded me that it is never too late to evolve, rediscover your voice, and pursue new goals.”

Mahealani Yusuf graduated this spring with her Bachelor of Hospitality Management and is on her way to law school! From conducting mock judicial hearings to gaining real-world experience, she made the most of her time at UNLV:

Favorite experience: “Conducting mock judicial hearings with my peers in Professor Marlon Urquico's HON 440: The Courts in American Politics.”

Experiences outside the classroom: “I served as President of UNLV Circle K International, an Associate Justice on CSUN's Judicial Branch, and a Student Ambassador for the Honors College. I worked as a Guest Service Representative at Aria Resort & Casino, an Intellectual Property Intern for the Law Firm of Higbee & Associates, and a Risk Management Intern at Tao Group Hospitality. In the summer of 2024, I studied abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.”

Advice: “UNLV provides you with too many opportunities to count. It's your job to choose to take advantage of them and make the most of your college experience!”

After law school, #UNLVGrad Mahealani Yusuf hopes to advocate for underserved individuals in the entertainment industry by helping them navigate copyright and intellectual property issues.

Congratulations to Hospitality College student Koby White and all the UNLV Native Spring 2026 graduates. The college was so proud to honor you at today’s Native American Celebration of Student Success. Special congrats to Koby for being recognized as one of the outstanding 2026 Native graduates!
“My name is Koby White. I am 23 years old and a proud member of the Western Shoshone and Taos Pueblo tribes. I am graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Gaming and plan to pursue a career in casino marketing, with the goal of becoming a Casino Marketing Strategist for a Tribal casino or other gaming establishment.
I began my journey with the Native American Student Association (NASA) as a member and eventually served as Media Manager, Vice President, and President. These leadership roles helped shape my passion for community, culture, and professional growth.
One piece of advice I would share is that everyone’s path to success is different. Stay consistent, trust your journey, and appreciate the small moments along the way”.

As we prepare for tomorrow’s special UNLV Native American Celebration of Success, we want to congratulate the President of the Native American Student Association on his success within academics, graduation, and contribution to the university’s Native American Initiatives. These initiatives have lead to the increase of the Native American student population at UNLV through recruitment and retention.

Koby has been very proactive and is a vital piece in the foundation of UNLV’s Native American programming, serving years on the executive board for the annual UNLV Pow Wow. He has lead this event along with annual events throughout Native American Heritage Month, Indigenous Peoples Day, Welcome Events, and has served as a spokesman for Native UNLV throughout the years. He will now walk the stage this weekend as a product of UNLV’s Tribal Educative Initiative in the College of Hospitality, in which he proudly represented.

We are so grateful for all of your hard work and commendable leadership Koby! ❤️ Congratulations and we cannot wait to see you on your next journey! 🎊
