With deep sadness, we share the news of the passing of Monsignor Don Fischer on Pentecost Sunday.

Msgr. Fischer served as chaplain at the University of Dallas for 13 years, from 1973 to 1986, and was deeply beloved by our community and throughout the Diocese of Dallas. Among his most lasting contributions was his dedicated work in coordinating the fundraising and construction of our own Church of the Incarnation, a sacred space that continues to be the heart of our campus.

Please join us in praying for Msgr. Fischer and for the consolation of his family and friends.

Evening of Prayer Sunday, May 31 at 5 p.m. Church of the Incarnation, University of Dallas

Funeral Mass Monday, June 1 at 11 a.m. St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Rd., Richardson, Texas, presided by Bishop Edward Burns, joined by Bishop Kelly and brother priests.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace.

Today is Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the Church. The same Holy Spirit who descended upon the Apostles is alive and at work in the world today, in our classrooms, our community and our hearts.

At the University of Dallas, we celebrate this great feast with joy and gratitude.

Come, Holy Spirit!

"Science has so little of a religious tendency,” St. John Henry Newman wrote, not because it opposes faith, but because "deductions have no power of persuasion."

In the midst of an isolated culture, the joy of genuine community is alive and well at the University of Dallas. Thanks to small class sizes, a campus designed for spontaneous meetings, and a curriculum built on things worth discussing, the people of the University of Dallas — students and faculty alike, as Luke Enriquez ’25 observes — bring true joy to life on campus.
At the University of Dallas, challenge is a major part of happiness. The robustness of the Core doesn’t just train students as individual learners; it draws them together in a shared conversation. As Jackie Friddle ’26 says, UDallas is a community where people can uplift each other, growing together both in and out of the classroom.
A university truly follows its calling when it confronts students with things greater than them — enduring questions, difficult responsibilities and, most importantly, God. As Sharbel Habchy ’25 says, relationships formed at UDallas encourage students to grow into the people God created them to be, grounded in faith and driven toward truth.
