Today marks one year since the passing of my mother. It has been filled with writing and art, grief and contemplation, and endless searching. It will remain that way for the rest of my life.
I am sharing a series of mixed media artworks and writing created during reflections upon this profound loss. I utilized sampled VHS material, 3d renders, personal photography and custom textures. The writing is also my own, coming from personal entries of poetry, storytelling and observations. They are deeply personal and vulnerable. I utilized a very rare and special glitch art video tool to create the unique visual aesthetic of this series, and that is the Blood Sugar S*x Video Pro Magik (aka the BSSVPM), an obscure sima unit modified by the legend. You can see me using the BSSVPM in this video.

The source figures I used were posed, lit, and rendered in daz 3d. I blended these figures with anatomical assets, creating a filterless presentation of the human form. The androgynousness was also very intentional, encompassing identity research, liminality and acting as a visual pseudonym.

When I released pieces of this series, they were often delivered in triptychs and always accompanied by poetry I wrote that was unique to each triptych. This contributed largely to the perfectionism that developed which ultimately (along with an entirely unwarranted strike and shadowban for โnudityโ) made it very difficult to continue developing and posting this series.

My art is created in the UNCONSTRUCTED laboratory using glitch video hardware, VHS tape found footage, CRT rescanning, and laborious clip syncing in post. No filters or AI used anywhere in my process.

Music: Torpor by
1) MANUAL PiP REVEAL: Utilizing my sony dfs-500 PiP (picture in picture) and applying a colored trail to the window. Dfs-500 is fed into the Edirol v4โs A channel and the trail color is chromakeyed to reveal the B channel. Channel B can be feedback, titler, or any source you want. Dfs-500 joystick allows for manual positioning of PiP window, creating an โeraseโ effect of your display when positioning.
2) SLIT SCANNED BPM SYNC WIPE PATTERNS:
Source into channel A on v4, feedback on channel B. BPM sync enabled for automatic wiping between source and feedback channels. V4 goes into my Korg Entrancer with slit scan applied. Entrancer touch pad allows for manual slit scan motion (up or down) and different wipe patterns on the V4 create different shapes and framing within the slit scan effect.
3) CIRCUIT BENT SFX-M EFFECT, COLORPASS AND HUE SHIFT:
The circuit bent SFX-M by has a unique bend that creates a pulsing of your image, and shifts it to the left side of the screen. It has a harsh pink and green color but when sent through a colorpass effect on the v4, you can remove the green or pink colors, or both simultaneously. Running this effect out of the v4 and into the Korg Entrancer allows for a hue shift on the green or pink passing color. Also, since green is mostly shadows and pink is mostly highlights, youโre color picking shadow or highlight colors with the hue shift.
I love creating with analog video machines. Their Distortion mirrors my fragmented vision, the Light resembles what treasure I seek. My Mind & Heart needs this.
