This August, Evelyn will begin a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, where she will focus on developing personalized treatments for MASLD using patient-derived iPSCs and microphysiological systems. By combining computational expertise with bench research, she is helping shape the future of precision medicine.
“One thing I learned the hard way during my PhD years is that quantity does not always equal quality,” Evelyn said. “Maintaining a level of enjoyment in my work is paramount.”
As she reflects on her time at UK, Evelyn says she will miss the warm environment in DPNS, Lexington summers, and her team at Four Seasons Martial Arts.

From Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to eastern Kentucky, Kidus' journey to medicine has been shaped by one powerful truth: access to health care should not depend on where you live.
As a member of the UK College of Medicine Class of 2026, Kidus has carried his lived experiences into every part of his training — from mentoring future physicians and advocating for underserved communities to caring for patients facing the same barriers he once experienced himself.
At 15 years old, he immigrated to the United States alone to pursue his dream of becoming a physician. Now, as he prepares to begin residency in internal medicine
he hopes to continue improving health outcomes, addressing barriers patients face in care, and investing in the next generation of physician leaders.
“Although I will be leaving Kentucky for residency, Kentucky will always be home and will remain a major part of who I am.”
