The introduction by Walter Jerrold explains that the popularity of this book was due to the exciting adventures of the Robinson family, as well as the wealth of information given about birds and beasts, trees and plants.
The author, a Swiss pastor named Johann David Wyss, apparently told this story to his children, and after his death, it was written and published by his son Johann Rudolf Wyss.

These are the books that I am working on this weekend. As you can see, there are several Folio Society fairy books, plus a huge pile of Enid Blyton and Alison Uttley vintage books, all in lovely condition.
Behind the scenes I am creating dedicated author pages, and plan to make the Enid Blyton page live this week. It’s a long but hugely enjoyable process, as I am working with books and researching authors that I am truly passionate about.

The 2nd of January is celebrated by lovers of the Science Fiction genre because the famed Science Fiction writer Issac Asimov was born on this day, in 1920. Known for his Foundation Series, Galactic Empire Series and the Robot Series, Assimov is considered to be a pioneer of the Science Fiction Genre.
Other well known Sci-fi writers include H. G. Wells and of course, Jules Verne, whose book 20’000 Leagues Under the Sea tells the story of three men who embark on an epic journey under the sea with the mysterious Captain Nemo, aboard his submarine the Nautilus.
Will you be joining in the celebrations? Do you have a favourite science fiction book? Or are you new to the genre? (If so, the book pictured is available to buy on my website.
Alternatively, you could watch a movie, such as Blade Runner (1982) by Ridley Scott, based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Captain Nemo
This drink pays heed to Jules Verne’s Nautilus captain from 20,000 leagues under the sea. It is made using fresh lemon juice, guava and raspberry puree, Ting (a Jamaican soft drink flavored with grapefruit juice) and Clement sirop de canne (a spiced sugar cane syrup.
All in the name of Science Fiction, of course 😉
