Today we had the privilege of capturing a Hawaiian monk seal mom alongside her pup at Kaimana Beach a rare and beautiful reminder of love, protection, and connection in its purest form.
And this moment is even more special: as of May 2026, the Hawaiian monk seal pupping season is officially underway. 🌺
The baby featured in this video was born on May 3rd, 2026, at Kaimana Beach to Kaiwi, a 15-year-old female monk seal well known here in Hawaii.
These images were captured respectfully from a long distance using a zoom lens, with no interaction, noise, or disturbance to the animals. The mother and pup were completely unaware of the photographer’s presence throughout the entire moment.
Hawaiian monk seals are one of the rarest marine mammals in the world, and protecting them is a responsibility we all share. If you encounter one on the beach, please remember: admiring from a safe distance is also a form of respect. Never touch, feed, or get too close to these animals.
