En Colombia existe una rana con niveles de toxicidad tan altos que ha sido utilizada por comunidades indígenas como fuente de veneno para sus dardos de caza. Sin embargo, en #CostaRica esto nunca ha sucedido y, aunque algunas ranas como Oophaga pumilio y Dendrobates auratus tienen cierto grado de toxicidad, para las personas no representan ninguna amenaza.
Sin embargo, el que no sean tóxicas para las personas no es una invitación a manipularlas. Los microorganismos y sustancias que tenemos en las manos (como repelente o bloqueador solar) son muy dañinas para la piel de las ranas. Estos animales, así como el resto de vida silvestre, merecen respeto.
