🍉 500g watermelon, peeled and chopped
🍉 4 tomatoes
🍉 1 red (bell) pepper, chopped
🍉 quarter cucumber, chopped
🍉 quarter onion, chopped
🍉 half a garlic clove, chopped
🍉 1 slice of rustic bread, chopped
🍉 1 tsp salt
🍉 1 tsp ground cumin
🍉 3 tbsp sherry vinegar
🍉 a drizzle of olive oil
Place all the ingredients except the olive oil in a blender and begin liquidizing. Add the olive oil, a little at a time, and continue blending until smooth. Check the seasoning and adjust if necessary. Serve over ice.
Serves 2 as a main 😋

We started our bakes when we were in Croatia with a cheese pita. We’ve also made a vanilla cake decorated with a yellow ribbon which is the symbol for childhood cancer. Kayla made a lemon drizzle cake this weekend, Moni made some apple tarts and Sienna made a chocolate puff pastry also in the shape of a ribbon. And I made a challah.

Baba always makes the most delicious “šalša” for us with the gorgeous tomatoes we get in Croatia 🇭🇷 She taught me how to make it and I couldn’t wait to make some with our tomatoes from our veggie patch.
Baba uses parsley in her sauce. Not a herb I would’ve thought of using but it works! And it works really well 😋
Chop up one or two onions depending on how many tomatoes you have, and fry them for a few minutes. Add some chopped garlic and fry for a minute. Then add the chopped tomatoes 🍅 Add a small bunch of parsley and allow to cook on a low heat for at least 2 hours! Then add in some chopped basil, salt, black pepper and chilli if you like and allow to cook until reduced. This might take another hour 🤷🏻♀️The flavours really develop the longer you cook it for 😋

The veggie patch is Tata’s thing and he plants whatever he feels like but one thing we always grow is tomatoes 🍅 Coming back to so many was a real pleasure! 💕
Yesterday I made this salad which has become a favourite of ours this summer and we hope you’ll try it! 😋
Recipe for this tomato and bean salad:
INGREDIENTS 🍅
For the dressing:
🍅2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
🍅6 tbsp olive oil
🍅1 garlic clove crushed
🍅Small bunch of coriander, basil and parsley
For the salad:
🍅5-6 tomatoes (any you like)
🍅400g cannellini beans drained and rinsed
🍅Half a small red onion
🍅100g olives (use any you like)
Start by making the dressing. In a jar with a lid, add the balsamic vinegar and the olive oil. Add 1 tsp sea salt and some black pepper. Then add the chopped herbs and garlic and pop the lid on your jar. Give everything a good shake to blend it altogether. Then start with the salad.
Slice the tomatoes and arrange in a flat dish. Add the sliced onions, cannellini beans and olives. Then drizzle over the salad dressing you’ve made.
Serve as a side or enjoy as a light lunch with some sourdough.
