Chief Long Wolf, who fought at the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876, was touring with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show when in 1892 he died of pneumonia aged 59, having performed at Earls Court, London.
Bill Cody paid for a burial space at the nearby Brompton Cemetery, marking the tombstone with a wolf, as requested.
Second picture (credit: The Denver Public Library) shows Long Wolf with his wife Wants and their children.
Long Wolf was repatriated by his granddaughter and great grandson in 1997, some 105 years later, and buried on ancestral Sioux land at Wounded Knee, South Dakota, alongside a girl called White Star who also died falling from a horse during the Wild West Show.
