How many people can you identify in this action-packed 1988 Sick of It All photo captured by Jeffrey Ladd?

The image appears in ‘Move Up Front,’ a new book collecting photographs from his years documenting the hardcore scene in and around New York City between 1985 and 1992.

Today is the day! Germany- Cologne! Come celebrate book Move Up Front!!!
We are happy to announce the presence of our good friend, the diligent Will Cattersel who will be signing his amazing book on the Solomon Islands and its tattoo history that is very much alive today. Come grab your own signed copy at the opening! If you can’t make it, no worries; we will be a sellingpoint of the book throughout the year.
I remember hearing about this record label in 1987. Stiv Valli of TVOR had some of these records for sale. Little did I knew that I would end up spending the best years of my life touring with Rev #3 and befriending a lot of people involved with this label. This shirt is only for those few of us who fell in love with that R in a star. Thanks to ❤️

The story behind the photo...
Judge, November 13, 1988 at CBGBs.
“In the beginning, I had no conscious ‘approach’ to speak of; I was just pointing the camera and grabbing whatever I could, not really constructing photographs aesthetically. ⁣

“I came to punk through skateboarding while my family was still out west in Phoenix, AZ, and I had grown up seeing band photos in issues of Action Now, Thrasher, Flipside and early Maximum Rocknroll. ⁣

“Even before picking up a camera, I knew the names of Murry Bowles, ⁣Ed Colver, and Glen E. Friedman, because I would see their photo credits on records. ⁣

“An older skater in Phoenix named Rob Munsey had turned me and my best friend onto punk [mainly local AZ bands: The Feederz, Mighty Sphincter, Junior Achievement, Consumers, JFA, and ⁣the like] and he loaned me several records to check out. ⁣

“More than the music, it was the ⁣record sleeves, lyric sheets, and artwork on flyers, etc., that fascinated me at first. The low-fi quality was a huge visual contrast to the polished, glossy artwork I had known on LPs from ⁣The Cars or Cheap Trick.”⁣

I spoke with photographer Jeffrey Ladd on the website today about his excellent new book, ‘Move Up Front,’ which gathers images from his time covering the hardcore scene in and around NYC from 1985 to 1992.⁣
